Red Carpet Beauty at the 2012 VMAs

Awards shows have been boring me more than usual these days and the red carpet looks have been a little weak this year. But last night, I spotted a few celebs who just nailed it! Read on to find out why Katy Perry and Rihanna rocked and it – and why Jessica Szohr totally did NOT.

Katy’s wavy finally-black-again hair looked gorgeous. I was really fed up of her purple and blue locks. Probably because I never liked it. Classic black hair just suits her so well and the 40s vamp-style waves were just perfect. Her entire look, including her makeup, was understated and classy. Well done KP!

Hollywood stars were definitely channeling the 40s last night because even Rihanna, the Queen of Crazy Hairstyles, showed up looking absolutely glamorous. I LOVE this hairstyle on her. It’s that old Hollywood glam that really adds a classy finishing touch. Paired with exaggerated lashes (my favourite thing ever!) and right red lips, she’s pulling off some Audrey Hepburn-style elegance. Such a nice change from her braless, half head-shaved days. Me like!

There was also this spiky blond hair thing (photo from The Hollywood Reporter). While it’s not my personal taste, I do think Pink really rocked this look. I think Miley just looks stupid but that could just be because I’m mean and I don’t like her. What are your thoughts on this look and who do you think wore it better?

And of course, it’s just not an official rundown unless I pick on someone. Jessica Szohr just made it so easy for me. WTF is that giant leopard bandana in her hair? Are you serious? What is happening here? As I mention in my most recent article for Best Health Magazine, hair accessories are in for 2012 but this is just wrong. It’s huge, it’s tacky and it’s 80s! Thanks for ruining hair accessories for us, Jessica!

What did you think of last night’s VMA red carpet looks?
