    Aveda’s Holiday 2010 Gift Sets

I can’t believe it’s already November! It’s time to get started on telling you about all the goodies the beauty world has in store for the Holidays this year. Check back daily for more updates on some fabulous Holiday 2010 items from some of your favourite brands. Trust me, you won’t want to miss the glam Holiday items I’ll be featuring.

I’d thought I’d kick off the jolly season with the perfect gift set. If you don’t what to buy that difficult gal you know, you can’t go wrong with a soothing gift set from Aveda.

Known for their calming and stress-relieving products, Aveda will be selling a variety of gift sets this year, including personalized ones. One of my favourite picks is the Ritual of Relief ($60 CDN) gift set because I think it suits just about anyone, whether beauty products interest them or not.

With both regular and travel-sized bottles of Hand Relief and Foot Relief creams, the soothing products are definitely useful, especially during the winter, when skin can get dry and irritated. The comforting products are rich, yet non-greasy, and  they instantly replenish and nourish the skin.

The gift set also includes a hair elastic inspired by the tagua nut, found in Columbia. Aveda buys tagua nuts from Columbia to help sustain fair trade within the country. So the purchase of one of Aveda’s 8 limited edition Holiday 2010 gift sets satisfies you, your gift receiver and a great cause.

What are you looking forward to seeing this Holiday season? More gift sets? Hair products for a fabulous NYE ‘do? Glitter eye palettes? Ask and you shall receive.

Aveda Gives Us a Sneak Peek into SS2011

I know we’re barely over summer 2010 and we’re just getting ready for fall, but Aveda has shared an awesome new look for next summer that I just had to show you now. I’m loving this complex braid Odile Gilbert from Aveda styled at Jason Wu’s SS2011 Fashion Week Show in NYC last week.

The sophisticated, 70s-inspired braid is going to be a hit for next summer but there’s no reason why you can’t start sporting the hot new look now. Be ahead of the trend game by scoring this look with Aveda‘s helpful tips.

To get the look, start with Aveda Smooth Infusion™ Style-Prep Smoother™ to smooth and tame flyaways. Pull the hair back into four sections around the nape of the neck and spray with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray to give the hair a shiny, flexible finish. Wrap each section of hair in ribbon that matches your hair colour. Tie four braids and spray with Aveda Control Force™ Firm Hold Hair Spray to keep the looking from going astray.

Tie the braids together with a thick piece of fabric (like the one pictured) and pin the bottom to the top of the braids. Add some bobby pins to secure the hairstyle in place and add a touch more hairspray. It sounds a little complicated but it’s actually super easy to do on someone else. Pair up with a friend and try the look out on each other.

What do you think of the modified braid trend? Love or hate?

Let Aveda repair your dry and damaged hair

If you’ve got fried locks, allow me to introduce you to Aveda’s most recent product launch. I’ve tried the Damage Remedy conditioner in the past and been nothing but satisfied but now Aveda’s introducing Damage Remedy™ Daily Hair Repair, which is a leave-in treatment.

I have yet to be disappointed by an Aveda product so I stand by this one at 100%. The Damage Remedy line is made to undo all the terrible things flat irons, blow dryers and dyes can do to our hair. Plus, it’s made from natural ingredients, including essential oils, which Aveda is known for.

I’m also a fan of this new product because it’s a leave-in and in recent months, I’ve discovered that leave-ins are a basic necessity. They repair damage and protect against further damage. Plus, the good ones usually leave your hair feeling silky soft.

Damage Remedy™ Daily Hair Repair is proven to repair damage by 26%, which is tremendous. It’s safe for colour-treated hair and protects very well against heat damage. I can’t stress it enough: you NEED protection against heat damage. Unless you let your mane air dry, you need to lubricate your hair follicles to protect them.

You can purchase Aveda’s Damage Remedy™ Daily Hair Repair at Aveda stores and salons for $29.

My personal tip: In addition to protecting your hair with products like this, be sure to get your hair trimmed (which is different from a cut) every two months. This will get rid of damaged ends and leave your hair looking and feeling much healthier.
