Who REALLY Nailed It at the AMAs (and who totally didn’t!)

I don’t know why everyone is up in arms about Taylor Swift and JT taking a photo together or whatever. Not only could I not care any less about that craziness but I can’t be mad at Taylor for anything right now. She just looked so amazing at last night’s American Music Awards and was one of my fave looks of the evening. Keep reading for deets on who else looked gorge and who creeped me out altogether.

My Fave and Least Fave VMA Celebrity Looks

I love watching the red carpet arrivals of award shows so I can check out who wore what. I’m always surprised by something. For example, this year I was shocked that Kim Kardashian showed up in a hideous dress that made her back-door look even more HUUUUGE! Now, on to my beauty look critiques. I don’t know why but I find myself really loving Selena Gomez — even though she’s dating the Biebs! Find out why I am loving her look and see who else wow-ed me…and who really didn’t!

Rihanna: A Hot Mess or Just a Mess?

Riri, what is going on?! I actually really like Rihanna but her most recent concert look is seriously disturbing me. I am not on board with her red hair to begin with, but this particular hairstyle is just freaking me out. Does it not make you think of a ram? I’m not sure what’s going on with her these days but this is not trendsetting or cool in any way!

Now I have to move on to those claws. The red is awesome but the length? The shape? Not working for me. Am I just in a bad mood today or is Rihanna seriously starting to get a little crazy?

What do you think of Rihanna’s look? Call me out if you think I’m being a meanie but I really think she needs some help from a beauty expert. Thoughts?

Some of My Fave MET Gala Looks

The MET is a can’t-miss event. And while I sit here every year waiting for my invitation which I am sure has just been lost in the mail, I soak up all the beautiful celebrity looks I can, checking out the hair, the makeup, the dresses! This year, a few of my faves got all dolled up by NARS and made their entrance looking nothing short of elegant, glamorous and simply stunning. Here are some of my fave looks and the products they used to score the BB411-approved style.

Jessica Stam, by far my favourit-est model ever, is so gorge in this photo taken at Monday night’s MET Gala that I literally wish I was her…or that I at least knew her! I adore her feminine dress, statement and gala-worthy neck bling but I especially love her superb curly locks which are gently pulled to the side and her understated makeup. To get the look, NARS Makeup Artist Fabiola Arancibia used Douceur Blush and Pigalle Lipstick.

Ashley Olsen is another A-lister who had a fabulous look. I love the classic look to match her ultra-elegant gown. NARS Celebrity Makeup Artist Molly R. Stern did good picking Sex Appeal Blush (I have this one — loves!) and Copacabana Illuminator for a vibrant, yet natural-looking glow.

I have to be honest and say Nicole Richie doesn’t wow me all that ofte, but her scarlet lips looked fab with 1940s vamp hairstyle. (Although she could have used a root touch-up, no?) Eric Polito used Terre de Feu Pure Matte Lipstick. I actually do not own this one. Must buy!

And finally, Bar Refaeli. You simply have to hate this woman just because she always looks so good! And we hate anyone who looks better than us, right? Or is that just me? Anyhoo…this lady looks hot. NARS Makeup Artist Nico Giulis used Laguna Bronzing Powder and this gave her skin a totally natural-looking sun-kissed glow. This is a definite must-have for the summer ladies.

Who were some of your fave MET Gala celeb looks?

    Beauty Approved: Makeup With Glasses

My friend Stephanie is sporting the perfect makeup for someone wearing glasses today. Applying the right amount of makeup when you wear glasses is a challenge. Too much doesn’t work and can get lost and not enough can make you look like you didn’t bother to fix yourself up at all.

Here’s how Steph achieved a look that warrants Beauty Booty 411’s stamp of approval:

Lush mascara to widen the eyes, but it’s just right. Thick eyeliner wouldn’t be a good option. She’s wearing a mix of Marcelle Power Volume Mascara and MAC False Lashes Mascara on her upper and lower lash line. This opens up her eyes without being overpowering.

A soft dewy look is perfect when you have glasses on, especially if they’re statement ones like these cuties from Marc Jacobs. She went with Honey Bronze Powder from The Body Shop for a subtle sun-kissed glow and Accord Parfait Blush from L’Oréal Paris for a slight rosy glow on the apples of her cheeks. All very natural-looking, subtle and illuminating.

For lips that are both understated and well-defined, Stephanie went for Frost Thrills MAC Lipstick and Flurry of Fun Lip Glass from MAC, as well.

Lesson of the day: Don’t overdo your makeup when you’re sporting your spectacles, but don’t neglect your look either. Ace it like Steph did by pairing up subdued makeup that merely enhances your glow and illuminates your face instead.

Here are a few celebs I think have also aced the perfect glasses/makeup combos:

Megan Fox (Do you not love her look when she’s toned down this way?)

    Anne Hathaway

Leona Lewis (A bold lip – daring but it works.)

    Celebrity Trend: Ombré Hair

Ombré hair came out last year but no one was really sure whether or not it would catch on. This spring, we know for sure: ombré hair is in. Looking at celebs like Jessica Biel (one of my favourite examples of the hair trend), it’s easy to see why it’s set to be on our radars for the next little while. Not only is it a more natural look, but it’s super easy to maintain. Who knew letting your roots grow out could be such a fabulous thing?

Nikki Braithwaite, senior colorist and owner of Salon Escape in Toronto says the two-tone look is fashionable and easy to pull off. “Any colour will work and most lengths, too,” she says.

Lily Aldridge, Rachel Bilson and Whitney Port are also great examples of how to rock ombré hair. They manage to pull off that tousled look that seems effortlessly chic. Lighter ends are definitely hot for the summer season (which I am desperately waiting for, by the way). The key is to make sure you keep your ends hydrated and smooth to prevent it from looking like it’s just poorly maintained. I recommend leave-in conditioners and hair masks once a week to keep your locks soft, smooth and hydrated.

“For the younger, fashion-forward generation, this trend is here to stay,” Nikki says. Will you be trying out this look for yourself this spring?
