No More Wild, Unruly Hair for Me!

This month, TRESemmé released a collection of Climate Protection products and my first thought was, “It’s about time!” Maybe I’m living in a cave but I haven’t come across all that many products that promise to withstand the horrible weather conditions our precious locks are subject to in Canada: heat, humidity, cold, wind, etc.

To be 100% certain of the efficacy of these products, I brought the travel-sized versions with me to Jamaica last month to face the ultimate humidity test. As you can see my photos, even in the tropical climate, my hair didn’t get frizzy, fuzzy or flat.

After a night out in the humid air, my hair is straight and frizz-free.

Better shot of my hair…outside next to the pool. It doesn’t get any more humid than that! Yet, still just as I styled it.

I used the Climate Protection Shampoo and Conditioner ($5.99 each) to start. The products are made for all hair types. I have fine hair but lots of it and I didn’t find the products to be too heavy. Yet, they did add some moisture to my locks. If you need intense hydration because of really dry hair or split ends, you’ll definitely want to continue using your normal leave-in treatment. Oily hair sufferers, no worries, these products are great for you, too.

My real favourite of the entire collection though is the Climate Protection Finishing Spray ($6.49). In general, I use very little hairspray or none because I find it can make my hair feel dirty. But this one is super lightweight and you won’t feel like you have any in there at all. It acts as a sealant that literally blocks the humidity out so your hair stays as you styled it, yet remains flexible and soft.

I also use it here in good old Montreal and it really helps me manage my crazy fly-aways! Those are particularly annoying when static acts up and I lose control of them.

The super affordable Climate Protection collection is available in pharmacies now.

Repair Split Ends with NEXXUS Pro-Mend Hair Products

This month, NEXXUS is releasing their all-new Pro-Mend collection. Believe it or not, this collection aims to reconnect already split ends while preventing future split ends. Sound unbelievable? Well believe it! They’re definitely not miracle products or something far-fetched, but they actually do help repair split ends. Positive and negatively charged ions work together to mend split ends. The whole scientific process can be a little complex, but all you really need to know is that the products do work.

Using the shampoo and conditioner regularly (which is what I’ve been doing for the last two months) will give your hair a softer feel and reduce the appearance of split ends. Those nasty white tips really mess up a hairstyle. Made with coconut oil, amino acids and keratin, Pro-Mend Shampoo ($9.99) and Pro-Mend Conditioner ($14.99) intensely nourish and protect hair while repairing damage.

After cleansing,  don’t skimp on the Split-End Binding Targeted Leave-In Creme ($9.99). Leave-ins should really be a no-brainer. They deeply penetrate the hair and hydrate. This particular one also repairs split end damage and helps keep tips whole.

If you have a big split end problem and use heated styling tools too much, you definitely want to get acquainted with Split-End Binding Overnight Treatment Creme ($14.99). Unlike the leave-in treatment, this one should be applied to dry hair. It may feel like you’re dirtying your hair at first but the product actually dries up very quickly because the hair absorbs it. Just apply it to your ends every night and go to sleep. The next morning your hair will look and feel healthy, smooth and split-end free.

And last but not last, this collection includes Heat Protector Styling Spray ($12.99). While the Pro-Mend collection repairs damage, it’s always easier to prevent damage than it is to repair it. Remember that if you have long hair, the ends of your hair have been with you for years, facing harsh winters, humid temperatures and other environmental damage. It has been dealing with your heated styling tools for too long. If you use a flat iron, you absolutely need a thermal protector like this.

The all-new Pro-Mend collection from NEXXUS, my newest fave products, are hitting pharmacies today! Who says fabulous hair has to cost a fortune?

New: L’Oréal Paris Hair Expertise Total Repair Products

If you suffer from dry and excessively damaged hair, you’re going to love L’Oréal Paris Hair Expertise‘s newest product collection: Total Repair 5. The collection is made up of shampoo and conditioner ($5.99 each) and 3 different treatments ($6.99 each). Personally, I am addicted to the Leave-In Repairing Detangling Spray. It intensely hydrates my hair and leaves it feeling silky soft and smooth.

The Detangling Spray (pictured above in centre) is designed to visibly reduce breakage and repair damage caused  by dyes, the elements and heated styling tools. I have been using it every time I wash my hair and it’s made my hair softer and my split ends less noticeable.

Depending on the extent of damage, you can also opt for the Night Elixir. You can apply this product to dry hair and by morning, you can expect to see incredibly soft hair. If you have colour-treated or very dry hair, I recommend using this product every night.

One of my favourites in this collection is the Repairing Mask. As I always say, a hair mask once a week is the best way to achieve healthy locks. It’s all about choosing the one that’s right for your hair type. If yours is damaged and dry, this mask will do the trick. It deeply penetrates the hair follicles to create lasting moisture from the inside out. It’s especially good for brittle hair.

The new Total Repair 5 Collection is hitting pharmacies this month so keep your eyes peeled for it. Luscious hair is only a pharmacy-visit away.

The Official Hair Artist and Colorist for L’Oréal Paris Has a few insider treatment tips for you:
    1. Squeeze excess water from hair before applying treatment.
    2. Run a wide-toothed comb through hair after applying treatment for even distribution and to de-tangle hair.
    3. Apply treatment an inch away from the scalp.
    4. For optimum conditioning, slip on a shower cap for 5-10 minutes so that the treatment formula can penetrate into hair.
    5. After applying treatment, come out of the shower and blow dry hair to open up the air cuticle and allow for intense conditioning of the hair.

Detox Your Hair with Nature’s Rescue from REDKEN

I’ve heard of lots of different kind of hair products but detoxifying hair care products that literally purify your hair and repair environmental damage are a first for me. REDKEN’s all-new Nature’s Rescue line sets out to do just that: detoxify and eliminate impurities caused by the environment. Infused with aloe vera and sea algae, your hair is in for some major moisture with this line.

The Refreshing Detox Shampoo ($15.49) purifies hair and rids it of pollution build-up. If you use lots of products like gels and hairsprays or your hair is subject to harsh weather conditions (which is literally unavoidable in this country) then build-up can be a problem. It can make your hair flatter, more dull and less healthy-looking overall. Think of detoxifying as unclogging your pores. It will allow your hair to get its healthy shine and natural volume back.

To complete the regimen, remember to use the Cooling Deep Conditioner ($17.89). It’s an ultra-moisturizing product that will balance your hair while keeping it hydrated and smooth. I’m a huge fan of this little gem. (Tip: Hydrated hair is less prone to static in winter.)

If you need a quick refresher, opt for the Radiant Sea Spray ($23.39). It’s a lightweight spray that has a soft oceanic scent to it. It’ll give your hair texture and a fresh aroma. I recommend using it on a bad hair day to give your locks a little boost.

The Nature’s Rescue line debuted at Salon Odyssée in Montreal. If you’re in the city, definitely check out this chic locale and ask about the new Nature’s Rescue line. If you’re not in Montreal, just look for a REDKEN salon in your city or call 1-866-9-REDKEN for more information.

Protect Your Hair From Dehydration and Frizz this Winter

Suffering from dry and/or frizzy hair this winter? You’re not the only one. Winter is definitely the toughest season on your locks. The extreme temperatures and windy conditions ravage hair and leave it feeling dryer and more coarse than any other time of the year. When hair lacks moisture, it not only feels rough, but it also breaks more easily and creates split ends and that annoying frizz we all loathe.

Live Clean, known for their natural plant-based products, has just come out with two new products that are sure to put an end to winter’s most common hair problems. Live Clean Exotic Nectar Argan Oil Leave-in Conditioner Spray and Live Clean Exotic Nectar Argan Oil Restorative Conditioning Mask ($6.99 each) are your soon-to-be new BFFs. As the name would suggest, these products are infused with argan oil which is rich in antioxidants, fatty acids and vitamin E.

Live Clean Exotic Nectar Argan Oil Leave-in Conditioner Spray (pictured above) is a product I’d recommend for all hair types. Spray more if you have thicker and drier hair and go for a little less if you have fine, flat hair. The product, which smells fabulous, is sure to nourish your weakened hair and repair the damage the terrible winter has caused. This product can be used on wet hair every day (although I recommend only washing your hair 3 to 4 times per week at most).

The Live Clean Exotic Nectar Argan Oil Restorative Conditioning Mask is better suited to those with very damaged or extremely dry and porous hair. A mask should be used once or twice per week and its goal is to repair and regenerate damaged hair. The rich and hydrating argan oil component will leave your locks looking and feeling softer, smoother and healthier in no time.

For retail info, visit Live Clean’s website.

TRESemmé Naturals Nourishing Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner

Looking for luscious, hydrated, supple locks? TRESemmé, the salon-quality hair product label you’ve come to know, has got exactly what you’re looking for. I’m never disappointed with TRESemmé products and these products are no exception.

The first thing I noticed is that my hair actually felt stronger after I used the shampoo and conditioner duo. It’s a hydrating combination but the products won’t weigh your hair down (unless you lather on way too much conditioner, but that’ll happen with any product). TRESemmé also has a volume-boosting line (which I love) so the makers of these products know that women don’t want to get stuck with flat, lifeless hair.

The Naturals Nourishing Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner ($6.49 each) are both silicone-free and lightweight. You’ll notice that after using them, your hair will feel silky smooth, look shiny and vibrant and be full of life. The products are even great for colour-treated hair so everyone can beenfit from these amazing products.

Give them a try and let me know what you think. What are your soft hair secrets?

NEW: Garnier Damage Repair Hair Products

Next month, Garnier Fructis will be launching a new line of Damage Repair hair products. Environmental factors combined with heated styling tools means our hair is being damaged nearly all day, eveyday. It’s really important to keep your hair protected and you should do what you can to try and repair damage that’s already been caused if you want to have silky smooth hair.

The Damage Repair Shampoo and Conditioner ($5.29 for 384 mL package)  have been proven to repair damage in just three washes. For $5.29, what more could you ask for? The shampoo and conditioner duo contain ceramide reconstructors which fill in and seal weak zones so they are protected from further damage. They also contain avocado oil and natural alpha hydroxy acids which have fatty acids that will shield hair against further damage and reinforce the hair fibre, making it stronger and more resistant to harmful and damaging conditions.

The most crucial part of this new line, in my opinion, is the Deep Repair Mask ($5.79). There are all sorts of masks in all different price ranges but no matter which one is right for you, I always recommend using hair masks. Nothing can rejuvenate your hair like a mask can. This one-minute mask replenishes dry hair with moisture and repairs damaged and porous hair. The instructions say to use the mask one to three times per week depending on the extent of your damage.

My personal tip? Leave the mask in for three minutes instead of one. I personally like to keep my hair masks a touch longer than recommended to get optimal shine and smoothness.

Garnier Fructis Damage Repair hair products will be available in major pharmacies where Garnier is already sold starting July 2010.
