Skin Care Secrets from Hollywood’s Expert Molly Walsh

Thanks to my lovely friends over at The Body Shop, I got the chance to meet with facialist to the stars, Molly Wash. Straight from L.A., Molly met with me at The Body Shop store on St. Catherine in Montreal and gave me her ultimate skin care tips. If her techniques are good enough for her celeb clients like Halle Berry, Brooke Shields and Amanda Peet, then they’re good enough for me!

Molly first tip is to never go to sleep with your makeup on. Never ever!Every single night, you should wash the day’s makeup, oil and dirt off before heading to bed. Nighttime is when our skin cells regenerate. If the pores are clogged with dirt, your skin will look dull and greasy and you’re likely to get way more breakouts. For cleansing the face, I really like Natrulift Softening Facial Wash ($14). It’ll cleanse your skin thoroughly without drying it out. It’s also enriched with whole pomegranate (not just pomegranate extract like most products). As you know, this fruit is loaded with antioxidants so not only will you be keeping your skin clean and healthy but you’ll be preventing premature wrinkles, too.

Molly also recommended exfoliating every day. That’s the second most important skin care tip ever. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and stimulates the renewal of new ones. And with the dry, coarse outer layer removed, your glowing and radiant skin underneath can shine through. After exfoliating, it might be a good idea to balance your skin’s pH with a gentle product like the Natrulift Softening Toner ($14). Balancing your skin will keep it from drying out in certain areas after exfoliation.

To maintain your skin’s beautiful glow and keep it looking it’s best, opt for daily moisturizer day and night and don’t leave out the delicate skin underneath your eyes. Try the Nutriganics Smoothing Eye Contour Cream ($20). Eye cream is super important if you want to keep that area from developing premature wrinkles and if you want your entire face to look more vibrant.

What are your personal skin care secrets? Spill!

    Take THAT Dark Under-Eye Circles!

I myself have really dark bags under my eyes and no matter how much you sleep I get, there isn’t all that much I can do about nasty dark circles and bags. I’ve found the best products out there that suit all different sorts of needs. Read on to find out which one is best for you.

Before looking for the quick makeup fix, you need to use the right skin care products if you have puffy, tired eyes. Lancôme is launching Rénergie Eye Multiple Action ($90) this May. This dynamic duo consists of a cream and concealer and it’s a total life-saver. I am absolutely in love with it. The cream works instantly and the thick, rich formula cools the skin immediately. Plus, I can actually see the difference as soon as I apply it. The concealer part is light and ideal for illuminating the eye area. It really does a fabulous job of erasing my dark circles.

Now, of course, no one product is good for every single woman. There are lots of options out there and it’s about finding the one that is right for you. If puffiness isn’t an issue for you, you might be more interested in an illuminator. Lancôme’s Teint Miracle ($38), launching in April, conceals darkened areas and illuminates the skin so your eyes look instantly revived.

It’s very similar to Touche Éclat from YSL ($50 at Holt Renfrew and select Murale stores). This is also a fab product and I would really recommend it for someone who feels like their eye area makes them look tired and drained rather than just being dark. That calls for some heavy duty action and this product will give your eyes an extra kick so you look bright-eyed and rested.

If you don’t have a tremendous problem with the eye are but still want your face to look brighter and more vibrant, Avon’s wallet-friendly Magix Illuminator ($14.99 – launching next month) is right up your alley. It conceals light bags and gives a natural, refreshed look. It’s ideal for women who want to look rested and vibrant but don’t necessarily want to look like they have too much makeup on. And who could argue with that price? It’s also available in 3 shades and lasts up to 10 hours.

What are your current dark circle fixes?

    Sensitive Eye Solutions from Cliniderm

I love me a smoky eye but at the end of the night, getting off all those layers of eyeshadow, liner, mascara and false eyelash glue isn’t exactly an easy task. Unfortunately, I have very sensitive eyes so I’m super careful about eye makeup removers and creams. Anything around the eye around has to be extremely gentle.

For removing my makeup, I really like the Cliniderm Gentle Eye Makeup Remover Cream ($19 — keep reading to find out how to score it for less!). This creamy product wipes makeup off instantly, doesn’t sting the eyes and is ultra-moisturizing and refreshing. The skin around the eyes is so sensitive so you really want to avoid products that will dry it out and lead to premature wrinkles. And of course, you all use makeup remover because you listen to my advice and never go to bed with makeup, on!

Once you’re all cleaned up, I hate to say it, but if you’re 25+ you need to start some preventative anti-wrinkle treatment. The eye area can wrinkle before the rest of your face because the skin is so delicate. So you need an anti-wrinkle cream that’s both effective yet gentle. I like the Cliniderm Anti-Wrinkle Eye Contour Cream ($29 — discount price details below). This product includes vitamin C which you can actually feel working. It warms up the skin and is one of the best ingredients for anti-aging creams.

If you’re in Montreal you can score each of these products for 15% off just for being a BB411 reader. Head to the Proxim pharmacy in the Seaforth Medical Centre on Guy just north of Sherbrooke St. (3550 Cote des Neiges) and visit the pharmacist, Daron Basmadjian. If you mention that you read about this offer on my website, you’ll receive these products for 15% off the above mentioned prices. My gift to you.

A huge thanks to my fave pharmacy!
