    Take THAT Dark Under-Eye Circles!

I myself have really dark bags under my eyes and no matter how much you sleep I get, there isn’t all that much I can do about nasty dark circles and bags. I’ve found the best products out there that suit all different sorts of needs. Read on to find out which one is best for you.

Before looking for the quick makeup fix, you need to use the right skin care products if you have puffy, tired eyes. Lancôme is launching Rénergie Eye Multiple Action ($90) this May. This dynamic duo consists of a cream and concealer and it’s a total life-saver. I am absolutely in love with it. The cream works instantly and the thick, rich formula cools the skin immediately. Plus, I can actually see the difference as soon as I apply it. The concealer part is light and ideal for illuminating the eye area. It really does a fabulous job of erasing my dark circles.

Now, of course, no one product is good for every single woman. There are lots of options out there and it’s about finding the one that is right for you. If puffiness isn’t an issue for you, you might be more interested in an illuminator. Lancôme’s Teint Miracle ($38), launching in April, conceals darkened areas and illuminates the skin so your eyes look instantly revived.

It’s very similar to Touche Éclat from YSL ($50 at Holt Renfrew and select Murale stores). This is also a fab product and I would really recommend it for someone who feels like their eye area makes them look tired and drained rather than just being dark. That calls for some heavy duty action and this product will give your eyes an extra kick so you look bright-eyed and rested.

If you don’t have a tremendous problem with the eye are but still want your face to look brighter and more vibrant, Avon’s wallet-friendly Magix Illuminator ($14.99 – launching next month) is right up your alley. It conceals light bags and gives a natural, refreshed look. It’s ideal for women who want to look rested and vibrant but don’t necessarily want to look like they have too much makeup on. And who could argue with that price? It’s also available in 3 shades and lasts up to 10 hours.

What are your current dark circle fixes?

New Products From Smashbox Cosmetics for Fall 2010

I have been holding this secret in for what feels like forever! I got to view the new Smashbox collection a few months ago but couldn’t share the deets until the products hit stores and finally, they have!

I’ll start with my two faves, including the most covetable item of the year–the Eyeshadow Palette in Masquerade ($40). This palette focuses on illuminating the eyes while playing on the dark, trendy hues for fall. The palette is set up so that all three colours in each row match and can be blended together, but the real beauty of this palette is that all nine of these shades match so you can mix and match to your heart’s content.

In the photo above, I went for the three colours in the centre row. I applied a touch of the khaki-green to the outer corner, brown to the crease and gold on the lid. Plus, I added a touch of the white powder (in the upper left corner of the palette) to the brow bone for added radiance.

I was able to meet with Lori Taylor, Smashbox‘s amazingly talented makeup artist from L.A. She showed me how amazing the colours look when you just experiment with them and told me enhanced brows really finish off a look.

She was right because Brow-Tech-To-Go ($30) is my new essential. It’s a retractable eyebrow pencil and it fills in the brow line so it looks perfectly coiffed all the time. Plus, it has an eyebrow brush at the opposite end and it comes in two shades for both light and dark brows.

The new collection is out this month. Aside from the eyeshadow palette (which is sure to grace the pages of every beauty magazine in the world this season), you might also like the Limitless Eyeliner Pencils. Deets on those to come soon.

After experimenting with the products, Lori and Smashbox invited me to sit in their official cosmetic chair for a quick snapshot.

My New Obsession: Ardell False Lashes

I have probably had more difficulty than anyone in the world when it comes to putting on false lashes. I have had incidents which involved getting glue and lash particles all over the place–except where they belong. But after a little practice and determination, I have finally mastered the art of applying false lashes and am now addicted. (Keep reading to get a few tips on how to apply them yourself.)

The lashes I have been wearing are from Ardell. These lashes are available for a few bucks at most pharmacies and the glue (sold separately) is also a few dollars. Each pair of lashes lasts up to 30 wears. You just peel off the strip of glue when you remove the lashes and they’re ready for the next use. As you can see in my photo above, the lashes don’t look incredibly fake but they do look luscious and defined. I don’t have a stitch of mascara on in that pic, either.

The lashes I am currently using are #107, which is a very full, glam pair for nights out. They’re perfect and didn’t even need to be trimmed. What I like about the lashes is that they are made from 100% human hair so the look is as natural as can be. Plus, the glue is very lightweight so you don’t feel pressure on your eyelids (as some synthetic lashes and glues can do–and it’s very uncomfortable). Once I finally mastered the art of eyelash application, I became an addict and I think you might, too.

The best part? The lashes look as gorgeous as my eyelash extensions which I tried out a while back (pictured below). I totally loved them while I had them but they’re not practical to keep up in the long term. Eyelash extensions are really quite expensive and Ardell False Lashes are incredibly affordable so you can actually get the same look, for way, way less.

Still think false lashes are out of your league? Follow my tips below and with a little practice (and patience) you’ll be a pro soon enough.

    How to apply false lashes:
    - Before applying glue, hold the lashes against the base of your natural lash line to make sure the length is suitable
    - Apply glue and wait about 15 seconds for it to get a little tacky
    - Apply the lashes starting from the inner corner of the eye, where your natural lash line begins
    - Slowly pat the lash down against the lash line (as close as possible) until you reach the end
    - Press it down gently and hold for about 10 seconds, until the glue sticks 100%
    - Apply your makeup and eyeliner before you judge the lashes because it makes a huge difference
    - Eyeliner is a great way to cover up any glue particles
    - If you’re all thumbs, try applying the lashes with tweezers
    - Don’t ever assume only a makeup artist can do something for you. With enough practice, you can learn how to perfect anything.

    Good luck!

If you purchase Ardell lashes, let me know. Have any other fave false lashes or application techniques? Tell us all about it in the comments!

HD Feline Eyeliner from Lise Watier

Slowly, more and more brands are developing HD makeup. As advances in technology makes photos and videos clearer and clearer, makeup will continue to progress and develop into products that conceal more or are heightened in some way.

Lise Watier‘s new HD Feline Eyeliner is the perfect example of that. This velvet-tip eyeliner is smooth, leaves a flawless finish and enhances your gaze tremendously. It gives your eyes so much more of an impact than regular eyeliner does. I normally have difficulty with liquid eyeliners but this applicator makes applying the liner a cinch.

Just sweep the long, slightly firm felt tip across your upper lash line. Because the makeup is HD, you can even stop halfway and continue or touch-up without leaving any traces behind. It’ll always looks picture-perfect and it has a soft, velvety finish as opposed to a rigid, wet-looking finish. Plus, it dries almost instantly (unlike most liquid liners) and it’s a long-wear product so your intense black line won’t fade to grey throughout the day.

As you may have guessed by the name, it makes it really simple to achieve that ’60s-inspired, cat-eye liner effect (which is so hot right now). Lise Watier‘s HD Feline Eyeliner retails for $17 and just hit stores this month.
