Summer is here and last week’s heat wave definitely proved it. While you should be protecting yourself from the sun all year round, it’s especially important in summer. Bioderma – one of my favourite skin care brands (best makeup remover ever!) – has just released this new line. Read on for deets on these goodies.Tags: Bioderma, body, cream, face, milk, Photoderm, skin care, SPF, spray, summer, sun care, sunscreen, wrinkles
I’m in awe of this jaw-droppingly gorgeous new palette from Guerlain. Read on for more deets on Terracotta Terra Soleia.Tags: beauty, body, bronzer, face, Guerlain, makeup, powder, Sephora, summer, Terracotta Terra Soleia, the Bay
Not that face washing needed revolutionizing or anything but a few weeks ago I received an email from this company, asking me to try out this product. When I read in the press release that it would make washing my face fun, I was a little skeptical. But I swear, it does! Find out why…
If there was ever a day that felt like spring, it’s today! I am loooving the sunshine. You know winter has gone on far too long when 8 degrees makes a person this happy. Anyways, when it comes to spring, if there’s one thing I like almost as much as the nicer weather, it’s new makeup collections. Here are two gorge Marcelle palettes that your spring beauty routine absolutely need to include.Tags: beauty, blush, eyeshadow, face, limited edition, makeup, Marcelle, palette, powder, spring 2012, spring beauty, spring trends
My new favourite skin care products are these amazing Olay 2-in-1 Daily Facial Cloths. They’re super soft pieces of fabric that have dried soap in them. So all you have to do is wet them and just like that, you’ve got a foamy wash cloth. I loves these wipes because they really clean up the dirt that’s deep down in the skin and at the same time, they exfoliate.
I’m an exfoliating nut! It’s the best way to keep your skin glowing all the time. Plus, it helps get rid of dry, cracked skin, blemishes and those annoying little blackheads. I’d recommend these for anyone with oily/combination skin. I have some oily spots but the rest is dry and these work perfectly for my skin and they really clear up the T-zone.
If you have shiny skin, you need a remedy for that. As summer approaches, that shiny skin problem is going to get worse. Don’t think makeup alone will solve that problem. To bring down the shine, try the Olay Shine Control Lathering Cleanser. This product will help balance your skin’s pH and make shiny skin a thing of the past.
If your main concern is acne, then go for the Olay Acne Control Face Wash instead. It deeply cleanses the skin, treats breakouts and prevents future breakouts.
Olay is one of my favourite brands because it’s easily accessible, wallet-friendly and the products really work. Don’t be sucked in by fancy ads. More expensive products aren’t necessarily better. Head to a pharmacy near you to pick up one of these skin-saving goodies.
When you test out beauty products on a daily basis, like I do, it’s rare that you come across something unique and different from the rest. That’s why I’m pretty impressed with St. Ives® Fresh Skin Moisturizing Olive Scrub. This one is different. It’s ultra-hydrating and nourishing, which isn’t always an easy thing to find in a scrub.
It’s no secret that olive oil is great for just about everything. We need it in our daily diet to stay healthy and it’s also great for the skin. It can even heal some skin conditions like eczema (but that’s just my own personal remedy).
St. Ives has been my number one choice for skin care since I first tried out their body creams. I am forever devoted to them and have since started trying out their other products. This scrub is one of my new faves. It gently exfoliates the skin, which is SO important to do. (I just can’t stress that enough.) It removes dead skin cells gently so it doesn’t damage the new, fresh skin below the surface. It contains Olive Leaf Extract which helps stop the production of damage-causing free radicals, it contains omega fatty acids which hydrate and nourish the skin and it smells fantastic.
The best part? It’s only $8.99 at local pharmacies. There are some fantastic luxury products on the market that work really well but there’s no reason why the lady on a budget shouldn’t be able to have great skin, too.
St. Ives® Fresh Skin Moisturizing Olive Scrub is in stores now. What exfoliate do you normally use? Better question…do you exfoliate enough? An oily T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) can be a real pain in the butt, especially in the hot summer months. I received an email from a loyal Beauty Booty 4-1-1 reader asking me for the best ways to deal with this problem. So here’s the info on how to deal with oily skin from A-Z.
For starters, you need to care for your skin with the right products. Obviously, select cleansers that are oil-free and made specifically for oily skin. The best way to control your oily skin is to wash your face with soap twice a day and never go to bed with makeup on. Sleeping with your makeup on not only worsens oily skin but it advances the aging process. If you wear a lot of makeup, use makeup remover first, then wash away the residue with a mild soap. I suggest using Clinique’s Liquid Facial Soap for Oily Skin.
Next, exfoliate! This serves a double purpose. Exfoliating is one of the best ways to prevent premature wrinkles and it’s a great way to get rid of excess sebum on the face. I suggest you exfoliate morning and night but if that’s too much work for you, do it at night. It’s very important. Plus, it’ll keep your skin looking radiant, healthy and smooth. I use L’Oreal Paris’ GO 360 CLEAN Deep Exfoliating Scrub. (It smells amazing!)
When it comes to choosing a daily moisturizer, you should select one that is specifically made for oily skin. (I can’t stress how important choosing products for oily skin is enough!) Nearly every line of cosmetics offers such a product. Hint: SPF is something you should be wearing everyday to protect against premature wrinkles, but creams with SPF are usually more oily. I’d suggest you stick to a cream with a lower SPF in it, like 10 as opposed to 40.
When it comes to makeup, you should be careful what you choose to put on your face. Always check the ingredients to make sure your makeup (even powders) are not oil-based. This is a big mistake many people make. In terms of foundation, always opt for a matte powder version over a liquid version. Even oil-free liquids tend to leave a greasy film at times, especially if you plan to wear it all day long.
I recommend purchasing a colourless loose powder, as well. Always sweep a thin layer of loose powder over your face with a blush brush. The matte, loose powder will help keep your oily spots under control. Another great tip is to keep oil blotting sheets in your purse at all times. I just bought Sephora’s Matte Blotting Film and I totally love them. I keep them with me all day and when I notice my chin getting a little shiny, I just press a piece of film against the spot and it instantly absorbs all the oil. It’s a life-saver.
The last piece of info I can give you might seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people completely overlook this. Shimmering makeup is not your friend. I mean anything shimmering: bronzer, eyeshadow, lip gloss. If it has sparkles, shimmer or shine, avoid it! Matte makeup (which is actually super hot this season) will offset a shiny complexion. If you add shimmer to shine, you’ll only enhance the oily spots on your face and make them appear even greasier than they are. Matte bronzers, eyeshadows and foundations will not only down play the shine but give your face a refined finish.

L’Oréal Paris’ True Match Roller Perfecting Roll On Makeup is truly innovative, to say the least. It’s the first of it’s kind and after vibrating makeup hit, I didn’t think makeup application could get any easier.
It’s not only quick and easy to use but the coverage is the best I have ever seen. The applicator works in the same way a roll on paint brush works on the wall, which makes me wonder why no one ever thought of this before. Simply glide it along your face and just like that, even coverage! Even though the applicator looks rigid, it’s not. So you can easily apply makeup everywhere, including around the nose. It’s flexible.
As you can see in the photo below, applying with the fingers can sometimes leave streaks. I recommend never applying with your fingers. EVER! If you don’t want to use this product, at least use a makeup sponge or foundation brush. Otherwise, you risk having a streaky face. Not hot! The roll on applicator, however, leaves an even, streak-free finish.
The True Match technology works, too, much to my surprise. It adapts to your skin tone and blends in seamlessly so it doesn’t even look like you have any makeup on at all. Plus, it gives amazing, long-lasting coverage. I actually cancelled an appointment to have my makeup done for a party because I don’t need a pro’s help when I have this. Plus, it’s way cheaper. It retails for $18.95.
My only advice? Don’t roll the applicator in the makeup too many times before applying it and don’t press it too firmly on your skin. I did and I looked like a corpse! It’s very heavy if you don’t apply it properly so be careful with it. As long as you apply only a light veil, you’ll be amazed by the results.
