Makeup Must-Have: Shiseido Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio

As I mentioned in my Top 10 Fall Beauty Picks article for Best Health, Shiseido‘s new eyeshadow trios are not to be missed this fall. Offered in a multitude of shades (from vibrant blues and greens, to pinks to earth tones), the Satin Eye Color Trios ($40) are fantastic.

A lot of younger gals in the 25 to 35 age group may not realize it but Shiseido is a brand you should be looking to for trendy and quality products. The Trios are making headlines this year because of their luxe finish and awesome shades.

My current fave is GY901. It’s a smoky eye palette with a shimmering grey, highlighting white and satin black. As always trios make it really easy to create a professional look. Always start with the medium shade and apply it to your lid. Add the darkest colour to the crease and outer corner of the eye and dust the lightest, most illuminating shade to your brow bone. I also like to dab a Q-Tip on the lightest shade and press it against the inner corner of my eye. Just a dab really brightens up the look and widens the look of the eyes.

There are tons of colour combos so I suggest you opt for the classic smoky eye or go all out and experiment with colour. Look for the natural undertones in your eyes and skin (green, blue, or purple) and match your eyeshadow choice to it. Your eyes will pop like never before.

New Zippered Makeup Palettes from NARS

If you haven’t seen the new NARS limited edition zippered palettes, you’re going to fall in love with them today.

I’m a huge fan of mix and match palettes only because I like to change my makeup colour combination everyday. I hate to wear the same thing more than once and palettes give me the opportunity to experiment to my heart’s content.

But these zippered palettes have won me over not only because they offer loads of fabulous fall colours, but the whole zippered idea means you can bring the compact with you anywhere. Whenever I pack my makeup with me, I have a fear it will open up in my purse and make a mess. With this palette, there’s no reason why you can’t just dump into your handbag and keep it with you for touch-ups.

There are two limited edition palettes (which are both slated to be in stores only until December 31 or while quantities last). First is the Only You Eye and Cheek Palette ($75 – pictured above). I’m loving the subtle blush shade but my favourite hue in this palette has got to be the purple eyeshadow. So perfect for fall.

The next palette is the Beautiful Life Lip and Cheek Palette ($65). The lip gloss fiend will love this palette. The orange and pink shades are very trendy for fall 2010. Depending on what your guilty makeup pleasure is, one of these palettes is definitely calling your name.

Check them out at a NARS counter near you or online. Happy shopping. Have a great weekend, beauties!

New Rouge Prodige Lipstick from Clarins

One of the hottest items for fall (as I mentioned in this article for Best Health) is ClarinsRouge Prodige Lipstick . Bursting with colour, this creamy lipstick is absolutely amazing.

Offered in dozens of shades, Rouge Prodige is a creamy, rich lip colour that leaves lips with a satin finish. I really like the bright red hues, but there are also neutral and pink hues to suit every taste.

The best part about the lipstick is that it doesn’t run. When lipstick bleeds into the cracks of the lips and spills out over the contour of the lips, it looks awful. Bleeding lip colours are a big no-no for me. Because Rouge Prodige is so rich, it doesn’t budge and it lasts for hours on end.

I know we love our glosses and young women are having a little bit of difficulty letting them go, but matte lip colours really are hot for fall. I will always remain true to a few glosses, no matter the trend situation, but this year, you have to make room for a little bit of lipstick in your fall makeup collection.

Rouge Prodige is available at Clarins counters at the Bay and Sears for $26.

Aveda Gives Us a Sneak Peek into SS2011

I know we’re barely over summer 2010 and we’re just getting ready for fall, but Aveda has shared an awesome new look for next summer that I just had to show you now. I’m loving this complex braid Odile Gilbert from Aveda styled at Jason Wu’s SS2011 Fashion Week Show in NYC last week.

The sophisticated, 70s-inspired braid is going to be a hit for next summer but there’s no reason why you can’t start sporting the hot new look now. Be ahead of the trend game by scoring this look with Aveda‘s helpful tips.

To get the look, start with Aveda Smooth Infusion™ Style-Prep Smoother™ to smooth and tame flyaways. Pull the hair back into four sections around the nape of the neck and spray with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray to give the hair a shiny, flexible finish. Wrap each section of hair in ribbon that matches your hair colour. Tie four braids and spray with Aveda Control Force™ Firm Hold Hair Spray to keep the looking from going astray.

Tie the braids together with a thick piece of fabric (like the one pictured) and pin the bottom to the top of the braids. Add some bobby pins to secure the hairstyle in place and add a touch more hairspray. It sounds a little complicated but it’s actually super easy to do on someone else. Pair up with a friend and try the look out on each other.

What do you think of the modified braid trend? Love or hate?

Fall 2010 Designer Series Nail Lacquers by OPI

This fall, OPI is launching a new collection called Designer Series featuring some glam nail lacquers. Overflowing with shimmer and shine, these sparkling polishes are an instant classic. I am a big fan of Radiance (silver, pictured) and Magic (blue, pictured).

The jewel-inspired polishes have a metallic finish. They give the nails a smooth, shimmering, platinum-like look. I tried out Radiance myself and as you can see by the image below, the nail polish is really intense and hyper-trendy.

Magic is a great addition to any fall nail polish collection, as well, because deep blues are really making a statement this season. From eye makeup and polish to clothing and shoes, some of the world’s most renowned designers hit the runways with navy tones for fall 2010. The cooler season always brings in darker hues but these shimmering polishes prove that dark doesn’t have to be boring.

The Designer Series collection from OPI offers 11 sparkling nail lacquers and one top coat. As usual, this collection is DBP-, Toluene- and Formaldehyde-free. Plus, the polishes come with an extra wide brush that makes application a cinch. Each bottle will retail for $15.95 in professional salons and spas starting in September.

WIN Lise Watier’s HydraSmart Fall Skin Care Collection

One of the biggest drawbacks to winter (aside from the bitter cold, heaps of snow and potential for frostbite) is the damage it causes to your skin. The harsh cold air brushing against your face is not only super uncomfortable but it dries your skin out which makes it age quicker while making it look and feel irritated.

Your number one defence? An intensely hydrating moisturizer that can withstand the bitter cold and all of it’s harmful effects on the skin. Lise Watier has just released a new skin care line called HydraSmart, which consists of one face wash and one daily moisturizer for dry skin or one face wash and one daily moisturizer for normal to combination skin.

I have been using the moisturizer for dry skin myself and it feels absolutely amazing. It keeps my skin hydrated and smooth all day without feeling greasy and judging by the texture, I have no worries it will protect my face all winter, too. I also have the face wash and the great thing about it is that it preserves moisture in the skin even while you cleanse it so your face doesn’t have to start the day off feeling dry and flaky.

And because I love spoiling my Beauty Booty readers, Lise Watier and I are giving you the chance to win your very own HydraSmart set! The winner will also get the chance to specify her skin type (dry or normal/combination) so she can walk away with a package of products tailored to her specifically.

Nail Trend by MAC for Fall 2010

The cooler weather we’ve been getting may have had me singing the blues, but this new nail lacquer collection from MAC is swiftly cheering me up. The only enjoyable part of fall is getting the chance to experiment with all the new fall beauty trends.

MAC is releasing a new nail lacquer collection that is hitting stores today! I’m in love with it. As you already know, fall usually brings about darker colours but those dark colours need not be drab or boring. I love how MAC continues to take the ordinary and make it extraordinary.

This new collection has 6 spectacular shades and one clear Overlacquer ($15.50 each). The awesome shades were inspired by architecture, fabrics, sculptures and decorative papers of Imperial China. All these things come together and make the nail polish collection not only trendy and chic, but exotic and simply stunning.

My favourites are Earthly Harmony, an elegant nude with lots of copper shimmer, and Jade Dragon, a sophisticated emerald green with teal shimmer. The colours are classy, yet edgy and modern at the same time. The nail polishes just hit stores so hurry on over to MAC and choose your faves today.

NARS and the Monotone Eyes Beauty Trend

There’s a big change in eye colour happening for fall 2010. I am a really big fan of combining different eyeshadow shades on the eyes, but designers like D&G, Viktor & Rolf and Gucci have really turned me onto monotone eyes this year.

The look is very much a 70s-inspired trend that’s oozing with sophistication. The Less is More trend (which I told you about last week) is lending itself to every aspect of makeup this season. To get this look, all you need is one striking colour to call attention to your eyes. I suggest spreading the colour a little thicker over your lids and crease while leaving just a faint hint of the eyeshadow colour on the brow bone.

A great product for achieving this look is this NARS Single Eyeshadow in Daphne. I love everything about it. The colour is intense, vibrant, on trend and long-lasting. I love how the matte texture really contrasts from the shimmering trend of the summer and, as usual, with NARS you know you’re getting great quality products.

Experiment with the monotone trend before you diss it. After spotting it on the runways, I just had to try it out on myself and I loved it. Give it a go and let me know what you think!

    French Coquette: New From Lancôme

Lancôme is launching a new collection next month and from what I’ve seen so far, I think it’s really going to be a hit this season. You may hear the phrase “Less is More” quite a bit this fall and that’s mostly because designers like Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney and Balenciaga hit the runways with makeup looks that embody those very words.

This fall 2010 trend simply means the emphasis this season should be on one area alone, whether it be the lips or eyes. A dark, sophisticated colour will take centre stage and natural makeup will be used to fill in the rest. French Coquette is a great collection to look to if you want to be on trend and get the same runway-worth look going on for yourself.

The first  item I suggest is the French Touch Absolu Lipstick ($40). This limited edition lip colour is available in four different shades and each one of them encompass a truly femme fatale look. The best part is that the Less is More trend is one that’s easy to replicate with this jaw-dropping colour. If I had to describe this lipstick in a few words, I’d say it’s creamy, delicate, trendy and utterly glamorous. I have this lipstick in 306-Cherry Kiki which is a rich, matte burgundy (pictured above) and I absolutely love it.

To complement the intense lips and rock the trend like a pro, I recommend finishing off with a touch of black (or even brown) mascara and a light, illuminating face powder on the cheekbones for definition and depth. La Rose Déco ($47) is a limited edition rosy illuminator that will substitute blush. The French are known for looking glamorous and natural and this rosy cheek colour is perfect for that and won’t take away from the lipstick, either.

I love the texture of this illuminator and I love that it makes the apples of me cheeks looks naturally flushed with a soft, rosy glow. The touch of shimmer within the pressed powder contours my cheekbones and sculpts my face so with very little effort, my makeup looks complete, professional and very flattering.

The new French Coquette limited edition collection hits Lancôme counters, Lancô, select pharmacies and Sephora stores next month (September 2010). There are loads more great products in the collection for you to try out, as well, like magnificent shimmering eyeshadows called Ombre Magnétique ($47), two spectacular nail colours called Le Vernis ($16) and more.

Dior: A Smoky Look for Fall 2010

For all you cosmetics aficionados, the Christian Dior counter is about to make the top of your must-have lists. This coming season, the elite makeup brand is focusing their attention on a soft smoky look that’s literally oozing with elegance and beauty.

My favourite new addition to the Dior line is the Dior 2-Colour Logomania Collector’s Edition Eyeshadow ($39). This limited edition palette (pictured above) plays on highlighting silver and sparkling black shades meant to exaggerate the seductive look of the traditional smoky eye. With only two colours in the palette, achieving a runway-worthy Dior smoky eye is sure to be a cinch. Apply the highlighting colour to your brow bone and apply the shimmering almost-black hue to your lower lid and crease. Top the look off with some intense mascara and you’ll be ready to go.

The logo-pressed powder is as adorable as it is trendy. According to John Galliano, “Dior women are not shy, they’re modern and daring.” And the products prove it. Plus, the superior quality of Dior products is so amazing to me. They are pricier than some other brands, but they are also longer-lasting and more intense than most. Plus, they feel comfortable on.

Another fabulous Dior product you’ll soon be swooning over is the Serum de Rouge ($40) which is available in a few great shades. A creamy and hydrating lipstick is a must for every gal and fall is the best time to experiment with some dark and intense hues. Give your pout a dramatic and bold finish with Serum de Rouge. Compliments guaranteed!

The new collection is slated to hit Dior counters nationwide this fall.
