Must-Have: Illuminating Face Base for a Dewy Glow

This summer, you can master the art of the natural, dewy glow like Hollywood A-lister Mila Kunis. I’m loving this pretty actress this year. She has hit the red carpet for numerous events in the last few months looking nothing short of spectacular. The natural, dewy glow on trend for spring 2011 and I think Mila totally nails this look. What makes it work? Only a few spots on her face are highlighted and because a little goes a long way, her entire face is glowing.

I’ve become a huge fan of this look and Illuminating Face Base from The Body Shop has made copying it a breeze. To score Mila’s red carpet glow, use this amazing illuminator sparingly. Just twist the bottom and Apricot Glow illuminating will gently soak the applicator brush.

Sweep the brush over the apples of your cheeks, temples, brow bone and lightly across your nose. The brightening formula totally illuminates the face and gives the skin a natural, radiant glow. The summer is the ultimate time of year to sport the dewy look so pick your illuminating go-to product and get the effortlessly chic look that is celebrity-approved and super simple.

    Take THAT Dark Under-Eye Circles!

I myself have really dark bags under my eyes and no matter how much you sleep I get, there isn’t all that much I can do about nasty dark circles and bags. I’ve found the best products out there that suit all different sorts of needs. Read on to find out which one is best for you.

Before looking for the quick makeup fix, you need to use the right skin care products if you have puffy, tired eyes. Lancôme is launching Rénergie Eye Multiple Action ($90) this May. This dynamic duo consists of a cream and concealer and it’s a total life-saver. I am absolutely in love with it. The cream works instantly and the thick, rich formula cools the skin immediately. Plus, I can actually see the difference as soon as I apply it. The concealer part is light and ideal for illuminating the eye area. It really does a fabulous job of erasing my dark circles.

Now, of course, no one product is good for every single woman. There are lots of options out there and it’s about finding the one that is right for you. If puffiness isn’t an issue for you, you might be more interested in an illuminator. Lancôme’s Teint Miracle ($38), launching in April, conceals darkened areas and illuminates the skin so your eyes look instantly revived.

It’s very similar to Touche Éclat from YSL ($50 at Holt Renfrew and select Murale stores). This is also a fab product and I would really recommend it for someone who feels like their eye area makes them look tired and drained rather than just being dark. That calls for some heavy duty action and this product will give your eyes an extra kick so you look bright-eyed and rested.

If you don’t have a tremendous problem with the eye are but still want your face to look brighter and more vibrant, Avon’s wallet-friendly Magix Illuminator ($14.99 – launching next month) is right up your alley. It conceals light bags and gives a natural, refreshed look. It’s ideal for women who want to look rested and vibrant but don’t necessarily want to look like they have too much makeup on. And who could argue with that price? It’s also available in 3 shades and lasts up to 10 hours.

What are your current dark circle fixes?

Bronzer Alert: Get Your Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick at Murale

In summer, we all want that fresh sun-kissed glow but we don’t want to wear loads of makeup. For one thing, it’s uncomfortable in the heat and second…well, we sort of want people to think we don’t have any on and we just wake up looking awesome. (Oh come on. You think it!)

In summer, a healthy glow is a must but as we know, harmful UV rays are not necessarily the way to go. I’m a big fan of bronzers and shimmer makeup because it highlights your face and can look natural when applied correctly.

Murale will be selling a few great bronzers this summer but my fave one is the Shimmer Brick from Bobbi Brown. I went to Murale to have the product applied by a pro and I was so happy with it. Julie Arseneault (at Murale in Montreal) used only this one product to achieve the perfect look. She’s super talented and did such a great job.

Julie also told me the Shimmer Brick has multiple uses. She used an eyeshadow brush to apply select colors to my eyelids. She opted for the dark brown in the crease and the lighter shades on the lower lid and brow bone. The colours are barely there and translucent but it woke up my eyes and gave me a natural look.

Then, with an all-over powder brush, she combined all the colours together and applied the product to my cheekbones, nose and forehead. This highlighted my face and made me look a little more tanned than I am. Plus, she added a touch of the sheerest shade in the corners of my eyes to make the look more luminous.

The Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick is a staple item in the collection and is available right now at all Murale stores for $49. I can justify the price since it acts as a bronzer, eyeshadow quad, highlighter and illuminator.

If this particular product isn’t for you, head to Murale and choose from one of their other great products. With the purchase of two products or more, a pro like Julie will apply the product for you and show how to get the most out of it. Trust me, the pros know it all and can transform anyone into their own personal makeup artist with a few helpful hints. And of course, there’s always Beauty Booty 4-1-1 for extra info ;)

That reminds me, stay tuned next week for what I like to call Bronzer 101. I interviewed an expert and got the best tips to help you apply bronzer this summer.
