New Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils from NARS

I told you about the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils, which I totally love, a few months back. If you loved them, you’ll definitely love these, too. As of February 1, you can enjoy the same smooth texture Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are known for with the shiny finish of a gloss instead. I’m a huge gloss fan but most gloss haters out there have the same complaint: it’s sticky! And who could blame anyone for disliking that?

If the sticky-factor has kept you from crossing over into the gloss world, fear the beauty of gloss no more. NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils are non-sticky, lightweight and they have a shiny finish. The soft texture of lip pencils makes them feel more like balm than lip colour or gloss. Plus, they’re easy to pack in your makeup case and a breeze to apply.

I like to use lip pencils when I want a precise application. I can trace the contour of my lips perfectly and with the new Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils ($30), I can still pull off the effortlessly-chic look of gloss.

Head over to a NARS counter near you tomorrow to check out the new additions to the collection.

Loves: Lise Watier’s Shockingly Pink Lips

This summer, vibrant makeup is on trend and Lise Watier has got some great lip colours to help you achieve the look. I never thought fuchsia would be a colour I wore on my lips but Lise Watier’s new Rouge Plumpissimo has developed the perfect shade.

Rouge Plumpissimo is a hydrating, plumping lip colour and I swear, it doesn’t sting (as some plumping lip colours can). The colour is matte, intense and smooth. My fave part about the Fuchsia lip colour is that it doesn’t leak. Sometimes, an intense lip colour can spill into the crack of your lips or around the edges of your lips, but this one actually stays put.

I wore the lip colour out to a party this weekend and I didn’t even have to reapply it. As you can see in my photo below, the colour is intense but not overpowering. I also didn’t wear any lip liner. I didn’t have to. Plus, the colour didn’t dry out all night. I hate when lipsticks dry out and leave a funky ring around the insides of your lips. That’s the worst!

Rouge Plumpissimo retails for $20 at comes in 10 different shades. There’s also another bright pink product from Lise Watier that I love and this one works better for daytime. If you’re looking for a pink hue without opting for full-on lipstick colour, then the Lip Kiss Gloss Crayon ($18) in Passion Fuchsia is for you. It looks like a lip pencil, but it’s actually a gloss. Just trace all over your lips for a non-sticky, shiny finish.

This product also lasts for hours and doesn’t dry out. I like to think of these two new Lise Watier products as kiss-friendly, long-lasting and ultra-hydrating. Try them for yourself and see. You won’t be disappointed. If brights are not your thing, you can choose from a variety of different shades, but I encourage you to try a bright hue. Get out of your comfort zone because you just might like it.

    Must-have: NARS Love Thrill Kit

It was like Christmas in April for me yesterday when the all-new NARS Love Thrill makeup kit for spring 2010 showed up at my doorstep. I’m loving the new colours and, as usual, the quality of the makeup. I couldn’t wait to try them on for myself and you won’t be able to either.

The kit is available at NARS counters right now for $70. It contains one blush in Super Orgasm, one lipstick in Sexual Healing and one Matte Lip Pencil in Sex Machine Velvet. The lip colours both have a metallic twist to them so they’re really trendy and very chic.

The blush is very pink and has a touch of sparkle in it. My suggestion would be to apply with it a blush brush and lightly sweep it across your cheeks. It’ll give you a rosy glow that’s feminine and delicate. Stay away from a makeup sponge! This colour is intense and if you apply too much, you’ll look like a little girl who got carried away with her mommy’s makeup. Always apply products properly and the results will be amazing.

Next up is the lipstick. Every girl in the world should own this lipstick! It’s slightly pinky but very natural. It’s subtle as well so it’s a great option if you’ve got heavy eye makeup on in the evening. You can also use it as your go-to daytime lip colour.

The matte lip pencil can be used in one of two ways. You can colour your lips with it and use it as a simple way to awaken your complexion. Or you can trace your lips with it and then apply Sexual Healing. Personally, I like to combine the two. Yesterday, I coloured my lips with the pencil and then applied the lipstick. It held longer and the colour was awesome.

I also added a touch of blush and voila! That’s me below right after I tried out my new kit. The camera doesn’t capture it as well as I would have liked but hopefully it will give you an idea of how natural and elegant the kit is.

If pink with a peach undertone suits your skin tone better, you might be more interested in the So Famous ($60) kit. To highlight your tan, opt for the Hopelessly Devoted ($65) kit for the ultimate bronze makeup goodies.
