Pretty in Prints by Milly for Clinique

I have an amazing announcement today, which my fashion-forward readers are going to love. Renowned designer Michelle Smith, the creator behind the Milly label, has teamed up with Clinique to make one of spring 2011’s prettiest makeup collections. With a groovy, 60s-inspired feel and the beauty of sweet pink, Pretty in Prints will have you feeling more feminine and flirty than ever.

My first tip is to get your hands on the Limited Edition Long Last Glosswear SPF 15 ($18) in Milly Pink. While I currently have about 30 glosses in rotation (if not more) I never ever go without a Long Last Glosswear from Clinique in my collection. It’s my go-to gloss when I need long-lasting shine and constant hydration.

For a lady who wants an elegant and sophisticated, yet trendy and feminine look, definitely go for the Limited Edition Pretty In Prints Compact ($43). It has the perfect blend of pink and neutral eyeshadows plus a blush that’s just the right amount of pink.

Finish off the look with some High Impact Mascara ($18) and you’ll be ready to go. The best part? Michelle even designed this adorable pouch to keep your Pretty in Prints products, making them way easier to bring along with you when you’re on-the-go. “The pouch for the Pretty in Prints makeup bag is designed in a signature print from my collection. I travel to Europe several times a year to research the archives of many of the esteemed fabric houses,” says Michelle.

This adorable collection hits Clinique counters this month so keep your eyes peeled for it.

New Pure Color Wild Violet Makeup Collection from Estée Lauder

Didn’t I tell you the purple trend was going to be all the rage this spring? Estée Lauder, one of my favourite top-quality-yet-affordable brands has just launched their violet-inspired makeup collection at Murale, Holts, The Bay and Sears.

I think this collection is a particularly wearable one. While lavender is hot, it doesn’t necessarily complement every skin tone out there. If the season’s purple eyeshadow trend is one you’re dying to try but you have a pinkish complexion, this collection is perfect for you. The Pure Color Five Color EyeShadow Palette in Wild Violet ($48) pulls off the shade of the season by pairing it with neutral tones. So if full-on purple is too much for you, you can choose to opt for just a hint of it instead.

I love the elegance of this palette and it’s so easy to make different combos suitable for day or night. Plus, you can opt for Pure Color EyeShadow in Sugar Cube or Untamed Violet ($22.50 each) to make your own eyeshadow combinations.

These amazing eyeshadows, along with the rest of the makeup collection and all-new Wild Elixir Fragrance ($68) are all available in store now. Which purple products have got you desperate for a beauty-shopping spree?

    French Coquette: New From Lancôme

Lancôme is launching a new collection next month and from what I’ve seen so far, I think it’s really going to be a hit this season. You may hear the phrase “Less is More” quite a bit this fall and that’s mostly because designers like Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney and Balenciaga hit the runways with makeup looks that embody those very words.

This fall 2010 trend simply means the emphasis this season should be on one area alone, whether it be the lips or eyes. A dark, sophisticated colour will take centre stage and natural makeup will be used to fill in the rest. French Coquette is a great collection to look to if you want to be on trend and get the same runway-worth look going on for yourself.

The first  item I suggest is the French Touch Absolu Lipstick ($40). This limited edition lip colour is available in four different shades and each one of them encompass a truly femme fatale look. The best part is that the Less is More trend is one that’s easy to replicate with this jaw-dropping colour. If I had to describe this lipstick in a few words, I’d say it’s creamy, delicate, trendy and utterly glamorous. I have this lipstick in 306-Cherry Kiki which is a rich, matte burgundy (pictured above) and I absolutely love it.

To complement the intense lips and rock the trend like a pro, I recommend finishing off with a touch of black (or even brown) mascara and a light, illuminating face powder on the cheekbones for definition and depth. La Rose Déco ($47) is a limited edition rosy illuminator that will substitute blush. The French are known for looking glamorous and natural and this rosy cheek colour is perfect for that and won’t take away from the lipstick, either.

I love the texture of this illuminator and I love that it makes the apples of me cheeks looks naturally flushed with a soft, rosy glow. The touch of shimmer within the pressed powder contours my cheekbones and sculpts my face so with very little effort, my makeup looks complete, professional and very flattering.

The new French Coquette limited edition collection hits Lancôme counters, Lancôme.ca, select pharmacies and Sephora stores next month (September 2010). There are loads more great products in the collection for you to try out, as well, like magnificent shimmering eyeshadows called Ombre Magnétique ($47), two spectacular nail colours called Le Vernis ($16) and more.

Limited Edition: MAC Alice + Olivia Makeup Collection

As any fashionista would know, Alice + Olivia is a brand that’s all about detail, colour and an expression of joy. And according to Gregory Arlt, MAC Makeup Artist Director, the new beauty collection envelops just that.

This new limited edition, fashion-inspired collection will hit MAC counters on July 8 and isn’t expected to stay on shelves any later than August 2010. The only trouble with MAC’s limited edition collarborations is that the products never stick around too long so you have to bounce on them immediately. Luckily, I’m giving you the news in advance so you can choose your favourites now and be prepared.

The collection is made up of three different products, each available in the most internse and vibrant summer hues. The Dazzleglass Cream Lip Gloss ($21.50) is definitely going to please you if you’re a fan of Superglass, like I am. The shades are trendy, long-lasting and they leave behind a crystal-like finish. If nail polish is your thing, you won’t be able to make it through the summer without Morning After (creamy turquoise), So Rich So Pretty (pearly, vibrant purple) and Military (pearly, matte black with silver sparkles). The Alice + Olivia nail lacquers ($14.50) are so hot for the season and will carry you into the fall.

Just between you and me, I attended a few events in the beauty world last week and intense teal (I loves!)and purple shades are going to be the focus of some of your favourite beauty brands in Fall/Winter 2010. This collection is a great way to get on trend and be ahead of the fashion game.

The third element of the MAC Alice + Olivia collection is the Pigments. I am really a huge fan of MAC’s pigment jars because they are so versatile. I work them into clear lip glosses to tint my lips, into eyeshadow and sometimes (depending on the shade) I even blend them into cream blush and bronzers. They can also be blended into nail polish if you want to give your nails a metallic finish. The pigments ($23.50) are a signature MAC product and can work into your beauty routine in more ways than you could possibly imagine. Just ask a MAC makeup artist for tips or be bold and experiment yourself.

The Alice + Olivia collection hits July 8 and you’ll be able to buy online as of then. But I suggest you drop by a MAC counter to see the collection in person if you can and maybe consider asking a pro how to best incorporate the shades into your beauty routine. I was lucky enough to play around with samples of these products before-hand and the colours are really beyond words. If you’ve been too scared to embrace bold colour in your makeup routine before, this new collection will definitely change your mind!
