Shu Uemura has finally hit Montreal

As I mentioned, I went to the opening of the Shu Uemura counter at Holt Renfrew in Montreal last week. The upscale makeup collection is nothing short of impressive. The Tokyo Lash Bar is my favourite part about the beauty counter. When you purchase a pair of flase lashes, a makeup artist will apply them for free so you can head out for the evening with them. Plus, they’re reusable.

I walked away with a goodie bag that contained some of Shu Uemura‘s best products and I just love them. My first fave is the red Matte Cream Lipstick. I’m really into red lips this year but it’s really hard to find a shade that suits my skin tone. I believe there’s a red for everyone and mine is from Shu Uemura. It’s a creamy lipstick and the shade isn’t as intense as it looks. It lightly stains my lips with red for a totally sexy pout.

I also like the High Performance Balancing Cleansing Oil. I have dry/combination skin so I’m not sure how it would work for extra dry or oily skins, but I really like this product. It’s an oil-based cleaner that hydrates the skin without leaving it with a greasy film. It really gives a deep feeling of clean.

If you’re planning on heading downtown to check out the counter, pick yourself up the eylash curler while you’re there. One word: AMAZING!

    The polish-free, chip-resistant pedicure

The weather has taken a turn for the beautiful in Montreal (which doesn’t happen too often) and I’ve got nothing but summer on the brain. I actually just booked a last-minute-trip to Punta Cana, too so beaches, sandals and everything summer are all I can think about today.

Yesterday, I realized my toesies weren’t exactly beach-ready. I called Coiffure de Neuville salon in Montreal to see if Marilyne Gerbeau (THE biosculpture gel expert) could squeeze me in for an emergency pedi. Thankfully, she was able to. I got a gel pedicure, which is certainly no ordinary pedicure.

Instead of nail polish, I had biosculpture gel placed on my toe nails. Don’t confuse this with resin gel which can damage your natural nails. Think of biosculpture as a very thick layer of nail polish that won’t chip, crack or peel off. Plus, you don’t have to wait for it to dry. The gel dries under a UV lamp for two minutes and then you’re ready to go. I put my socks back on immediately after without a problem. I even had a cute little picture stamped on it.

This pedicure is a great option for anyone who (like me) is too impatient to wait for polish to dry and who doesn’t want to redo their toe polish every two weeks. The next best part is that this pedicure lasts six to eight weeks, depending on how quickly your nails grow. During that time, the colour on your nails won’t fade or chip, even if you happen to go on vacation and swim in salt water (which normally yellows the nails). So you basically only need to have the pedi done twice a year and you’ll have shiny, picture-perfect toe nails all summer long.

Marilyne charges $45 at Coiffure de Neuville in Anjou for the biosculpture gel pedicure. For more information, call De Neuville at 514-353-8800.

Now all I have to do pack and I’m off for some fun in the sun this Thursday morning. Don’t worry, I’ll still have plenty of blogs to keep you entertained while I’m away.

    Shop Ogilvy’s for a cause

La Maison Ogilvy, the shopping destination for high-end designer goodies in Montreal, is hosting an event that I am very proud to announce to you. This Wednesday, April 7, you can attend the first annual Rendez-Vous Chic Fou at Ogilvy’s to raise money for Look Good Feel Better.

In case you’re not already familiar with it, Look Good Feel Better is the only charity in the country devoted to helping women deal with the effects that cancer treatments can have on their appearance.

This Wednesday, you can get 15% off your purchases at Ogilvy‘s (some exceptions may apply). While you shop, you can enjoy tasty snacks, great entertainment and check out a Bachelor Auction, as well. (Ladies, I hear there’s a surgeon up for grabs!) Tickets to the event will be $100. You can purchase them here.

I’m very excited about this event because Look Good Feel Better is an organization I truly admire. Some people may not take beauty products or beauty blogs like mine all that seriously, but we sometimes take for granted how important it is for women to feel good in their own skin. According to Anne Isabelle Pedro, the Quebec Regional Manager of Look Good Feel Better, nearly 22,000 women will be diagnosed with cancer in this province alone this year. The emotional battle that goes along with fighting cancer is one that we can help out with by supporting Look Good Feel Better.

Kudos to Ogilvy‘s for helping out such a worthy cause. Head to the store this week and inspire a woman who deserves to feel as beautiful as you do.
