Do You Like Lauren Conrad’s Ombré Nail Trend?

I stumbled upon this photo that Essie Canada posted on their Facebook fan page this morning. It took me all of two second to decide I kinda like this look. I think it’s imperative that you stay within the same colour family to rock this trend and Essie pointed out the perfect shades to get Lauren’s blue nail look. I wouldn’t have gone so light on the index finger — it looks a little off, but the idea is awesome. What do you think? Is this trend a hit or miss?

Pale Summer Lacquers from OPI? Don’t Mind If I do!

OPI is always ahead of the game when it comes to trend-setting colours. This spring, the pastel nail trend is kicking into high gear so you want to be prepared.

The Femme de Cirque SoftShades collection ($10.95) each is launching in April at select professional salons, spas and Trade Secrets. The collection offers 4 dreamy pink shades that vary from creamy to shimmering. The pale shades are so spring and definitely hyper-feminine.

For the Johnny Depp lovers of the world (myself included), OPI is also releasing a Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides collection with 6 limited edition shades ($10.95 each). This collection is a little more bright and perfect for the summer. My personal favourite is Planks a Lot, a vibrant yet soft purple.

Although the dark winter nail polish you’ve come to love is still acceptable, spring is the perfect time to delve into the trends a little more and embrace colours that speak to the season a little more. So lighten up! (Is it crazy that I find my own lame jokes ridiculously hilarious?!)

Chanel Spring Makeup: This is Why I am Obsessed with Beauty Products!

Anyone who knows me has probably complained at one time or another about my hoarder-like collection of beauty booty. While I receive the products to test for this blog, the really scary part is that I actually use the majority of what I get regularly. Who could receive a Chanel lipstick or eyeshadow palette and not want to use it? I rotate literally hundreds of cosmetics per month. It’s bad, I know. BUT, just take a glimpse at this collection and tell me you wouldn’t find excuses to go out just so you could wear these.

Le Vernis ($26) in Black Pearl is such a pretty nail colour. It’s not the pale spring trend, but more of a staple shade that fits into any well-rounded nail lacquer collection. The metallic finish is what does it for me. I don’t think I’ll get over shiny and metallic finishes when it comes to makeup.

For the lips, I’m so into Rouge Coco ($38) in Peregrina. It’s such a spring-ready colour and it’s really understated, elegant and effortlessly chic. It’s great for women who want to experiment with pale shades but aren’t sure how far on the colour wheel they’re willing to go. This natural pink hue is subtle, yet very pretty and it has a very faint touch of shimmer for a luscious effect. Loves it!

I’m also a big fan of the Ombres Perlées Eyeshadow Palette ($66) which my Facebook fans already know about since I posted a photo and description of my obsession over it a couple of weeks ago. Isn’t it amazing? The iridescent shades are breathtaking!

These products are available now at Chanel counters across Canada. Enjoy, beauty lovers!

Rock Your Nails with Dior’s Limited Edition Spring Nail Polish

The lovers of rock are going to swoon for this collection. Dior Vernis is known for being not only super trendy but long-lasting. I’m never disappointed with a Dior polish. Next month, they’ll be releasing the Rock Collection ($24 each), which will be exclusive to the Bay.

With 5 amazing shades and one smoky-finish topcoat, I’ve decided I need (yes, need) them all. My favourite is Perfecto #804 which is a slate grey shade. It’s the perfect follow-up to last season’s Gris Montaigne, which was an amazing hit in the beauty world. While lights polish is hot for spring 2011, a few dark shades are timeless, like deep purple and indigo.

The only sad part is that these lacquers are limited edition so who knows how long they’ll last. I’m giving you ample time to prepare. Head to the Bay store nearest you April 1 and snag your faves before anyone else does.

New Pure Color Lipstick and Nail Polish from Estée Lauder

For definition and intense pigment, Estée Lauder‘s new Pure Color Lipstick ($32) is soon to be your go-to lip colour. Available in 35 long-lasting shades, there’s definitely not a lack of choice with this new collection. Twenty-five of the shades come in satin creme and lustrous shimmer finishes and the other 10 luminous shades have a sheer and shiny finish to them. I’d be surprised if you couldn’t find at least one or two to suit your style.

My personal favourites are the satin creme matte finish lip colours and the the lustrous shimmer finishes, on the total opposite end of the spectrum. The trendy vibe of an elegant matte lip colour is one I can’t do without. But with summer on the horizon, a shimmer lip colour is a definite must, as well. To top it off, the deeply pigmented lip colours are also ultra-nourishing so you can count on lasting hydration for hours.

Aside from the intensely pigmented lipstick collection, Estée Lauder will be releasing Pure Nail Laquer ($25) in 8 bold and indulgent shades. As you can see by the image, the colours are deep and opaque. I feel in love with the Pure Red shade which perfectly encompasses the sheer beauty of red nail colour with its creme finish.

It’s the perfect red and one that suits the warmer weather up ahead, too. The colour on my nails looks brighter than ever, opaque, intense and totally on trend. The rest of the shades also come in shimmering and sparkling finishes. Bonus: The pro brush makes for a perfect application every time.

Both the Pure Colour lipstick and nail polish collections will be debuting at Estée Lauder counters across Canada in March 2011. Spring is just a few weeks away so get your wish lists ready.

    Spring Trend: Flashy Fingertips

This fall and winter was all about deep, dark shades, but spring/summer 2011 is about anything but. The trend is moving toward ultra-bright fingertips and it just doesn’t get any brighter than Powerful Pink Nailwear Pro Nail Enamel ($5.99) from Avon.

Available in four shades, my personal faves are Powerful Pink and Vivid Violet (which I actually have on my toes right now). I like the ultra high-shine finish of these polishes. It’s like having gloss on your fingernails. It’s definitely the flashiest line of nail colours I’ve seen so far this season so if you’re anxious to get on this trend, check out Avon’s website starting in March 2011.

As usual, these polishes are toluene-formaldehyde- and phthalate-free. But the best part is that these salon-quality lacquers can last up to 10 days. Say goodbye to nail touch-ups and say hello to spring’s vibrant and bright trend.

The Sorbet-Style Texas Collection for Summer 2011

OPI‘s soon-to-be-launched spring/summer collection is absolutely perfect for the warmer weather. Reminiscent of a refreshing sorbet, the new Texas Collection (which will be hitting stores next month) is made up of 12 translucent shades that have that water-based look. You can double up the matte shades to give them a more opaque look or go for a single coat of one of the shimmering shades to give your nails a candy-coated finish.

I tried out a few of the season’s hottest shades to see for myself. First, I tried out San Tan-Tonio (my fave), a rich taupe that is the perfect example of why the nude trend is fabulous. I love the creamy finish of it.

Next, I tried out Don’t Moss With OPI. This grassy green shade is opaque when two coats are applied and in case you didn’t notice at the Golden Globes last weekend, green is the new “it” colour for 2011.

To give you an idea of how translucent Too Hot Pink To Hold ‘Em is, here are a couple of close-ups. As you can see, the colour is bright and vivacious yet it has a sheer finish. Ideally, I think these sheer colours looks best when you overlay on top of something else. Maybe on top of black nail lacquer. It can give your mani an edgy twist. If you’re into the light, fresh look, one coat on natural nails is all you need.

Austin-Tacious Turquoise is another sheer lacquer I like paired on top of black. It can give your mani or pedi a glamorous twist. If you like your nail lacquer sheer, apply a single coat and seal it with top coat. For a more opaque look, go for two coats. Just remember to apply to all ten fingers first before applying the second coat. You want to give each nail a few minutes to dry before you throw on another layer. This will prevent smudging a nail.

All 12 of the Texas Collection shades are due out in February 2011 for $10.95 each. For more retail info, visit

Nicole by OPI Releases Exclusive Walmart Collection

While the thought of entering a busy Walmart on a Saturday morning scares me, I’d actually brave the crowds just to get my hands on these exclusive Nicole by OPI shades. Kicking off the new year with some vibrant polishes, OPI has successfully released another slew of trend-approved lacquers.

With four shades ranging from reds to purples, there’s something for every feminine gal out there. Personally, I’m in love with Count on Me which is a shimmering lavender shade. To give you a quick heads up, spring 2011 is going to be exploding with lavender from clothing to makeup. It’s a huge trend for the new year and once again, Nicole by OPI is ahead of it all. Aside from the trendy shade, I’m also really loving the pearly finish of it.

For the woman who loves to be on trend but prefers a more classic and sophisticated look, Never Give Up, a deep plum lacquer, is going to be right up your alley. Moving into the reds in this collection is He’s A Keeper. This particular red encompasses all the characteristics of the classic signature shade that has topped the trend charts countless times over the last few decades.

The more adventurous girl may want to experiment with Got Style?, a matte dirty rose (pictured below) that gives the traditional shade a stylish twist. You can find all four of these new polishes exclusively at Walmart and starting this month. Which one of these new shades is going to top your must-have list?
