Tinsel Tips from Nicole by OPI

While I must insist that no one go crazy and sport red and green from head-to-toe for Christmas this year, I do recommend investing in the perfect red nail polish. As long as your outfit doesn’t scream Christmas, your nails can be holiday-inspired.

Tinsel Tips, the latest limited edition set from Nicole by OPI, is only here for the holidays. With three different shades of red, you can’t go wrong. There’s a bright pinky-red for the bold and exciting lady, a deep red for the glamorous chica and a shimmering rouge (my fave!) for the trendy, fun-loving gal.

At only $10, you can’t afford not to indulge yourself and every girl on your list with this red-hot, limited edition set. Red is somewhat of a prerequisite for the holiday season so Tinsel Tips is not to be missed. The high-quality Nicole by OPI nail lacquers are also fomaldehyde- and toluene-free, as always.

Tinsel Tips will also make a great stocking stuffer for everyone on your list…including you! Have a great weekend everyone. Remember to check back next week for some more fabulous holiday products.

Lippmann Holiday Nail Polish at Murale

The ever-popular Murale stores are quickly becoming the go-to spot for makeup junkies like myself. And after seeing their holiday catalogue, I can tell you this is one beauty shop you don’t want to miss this season.

Lippmann Collection is one of those creme de la creme brands of nail lacquer. The covetable line has just released some amazing holiday polishes that are exploding with sequins and shine. Perfect for the upcoming holiday season, Boom Boom Pow ($24) is inspired by supermodel Kate Moss. With 24K gold sequins, this eye-catching colour is a must-have for the ultimate beauty lover.

Today Was a Fairytale ($24) is a deep blue, also embellished with silver sequins. Infused with trendy colour and a shimmering finish, this shade is definitely going to be my go-to nail polish for New Year’s Eve this year. If you head to Murale, you can also check out the Lippmann Collection All That Jazz ($44) ensemble of 3 glittering polishes. It’s the perfect stocking stuffer.

Which nail lacquer are you lusting after his holiday season?

Shimmering Holiday Nail Polish from Avon

If you think of Avon as a brand that isn’t for younger women, you’re all wrong. Especially since this holiday season, their makeup collection is trendy and spectacular. While I have fallen for the Celestial Shimmering Eyeshadows and Rich Colordisiac Lipstick, today I’m going to show you their two Limited Edition Nailwear Pro Nail Enamel ($5.99) shades. (No worries, deets on the other fab items to come this month.)

Splendid Blue is a deep navy hue jam-packed with shimmer. If there is ever a time when overdosing on shimmer is acceptable, it’s during the holiday season. I am absolutely in love with this deep blue nail colour and the fact that the lustrous finish lasts up to 10 days is just an added bonus. As you can see in my photo above, there is definitely no lack of sparkles and there are few nail polishes out there right now that can compete with it’s lustrous finish and wallet-friendly price.

For the ladies who like to get their pink on, Pink Radiance is calling your name this holiday season. The colour is so bold and vibrant. I love how you can use it to make your nails your statement “jewellery.” With this vivacious, ultra-shiny look, there’s nearly no need for jewellery or lots of makeup.

Avon’s Nailwear Pro Nail Enamel is easy on the budget and the products are also free of nasty formaldehyde, toluene and phthalates. You can order your holiday picks starting this month at avon.ca. Hurry, the holiday collection is limited edition and something tells me these colours are going to go fast!

TIP: For quick drying nails, opt for Avon’s Liquid Freeze. Click here for details.

    NARS 2010 Holiday Makeup Collection

If for nothing else, I love the holiday season for the abundance of gorgeous makeup it brings along with it. This year, NARS has come out with an absolutely gorgeous-looking collection of products that encompass three of the season’s hottest beauty trends: neutrals, metallics and pastels.

The first item in the collection is the Sex Appeal Blush ($29). It’s a pale peach that looks best when dusted on lightly just beneath the cheekbone, in the hollow of the cheek. This technique adds depth to the face.

The limited edition nail polishes, Pokerface and Bad Influence ($21 each) will make for great stocking stuffers. Plus, they both match well with the Melusine Eyeshadow Duo ($38). This trendy duo focuses on the metallic trend with a deep purple hue and pale silver lilac shade.

The limited edition Okinawa Eyeshadow Trio ($55) mixes silver, cobalt blue and black for a seductive smoky eye, which is perfect for a New Year’s Eve party. You can also offset the lips with one of the limited edition lipsticks, Petit Monstre, a sparkling berry hue, and Little Darling, a trendy nude tone (both $30).

The metallic glosses are a personal fave of mine for the holiday season. Both rich and lustrous, Downtown and Bougainville ($28 each) are a fabulous choice for a fancy cocktail party.

And last but not least, the one item no holiday collection would be complete without: a shimmering gold eyeshadow. The limited edition Étrusque Single Eyeshadow ($26) is one item you can’t go wrong with for the holidays. Dust the shimmering shade over your lid for an extra holiday kick that’s trendy to boot!

The NARS Holiday collection is available online and at NARS counters now. Which products are you longing for this season?

    Holiday Collection: Burlesque by OPI

To celebrate the opening of the new Christina Aguilera film, Burlesque, also featuring Cher and Kristen Bell, OPI is releasing a brand new nail colour collection this month which is just perfect for the holiday season.

“The colours were modeled off the majestic glamour, over-the-top costumes and mesmerizing Cabaret that are typically seen in Burlesque performances,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, the Executive VP & Artistic Director for OPI. The dazzling nail lacquers are jam-packed with glitter and shimmer, making them holiday-ready, too.

With shades of blue, purple, green, orange, gold, deep reds and pinks, this ultra-glamorous collection has something for everyone. My personal favourite is Tease-y Does It, a seductive burgundy polish bursting with glitz and glamour. (I am slightly obsessed with red nails this month!)

I don’t recommend sporting red and green from head-to-toe for the holiday season (really tacky!), but a classic deep red is always suitable for the occasion. Not to mention that this season, deep red lipsticks and nail polishes and the ultra-vamp trend are hotter than ever.

The Burlesque nail collection, featuring 12 uniquely shimmering polishes will be available in professional salons and spas starting this month for $10.95 each. For more retail info, visit www.opi.com. The film, starring Christina Aguilera and Cher will be hitting theatres November 24.

Nicole by OPI New Matte Nail Polish

Nicole by OPI always surprises me with their fashion-forward nail lacquers and the latest collection to make its way to my doorstep is definitely one of my all-time faves.

Matte, matte, matte! That’s all I can say when it comes to fall trends. And Nicole by OPI has nailed it with the Matte Collection of nail lacquers ($10.49 each). Although the shades reflect the matte texture popularized on the runways this year, that’s not to say the shades are dull or lifeless. In fact, this collection is just the opposite.

I wouldn’t actually recommend sporting the colours the way I have in the photo. I only did that to show you as many of the colours as possible. As you can see, the bold colours are bursting with shimmer, even though they have a smooth, classy and matte finish. (TIP: I would skip on the top coat with these nail lacquers to keep the trend in tact.)

On my fingers (from index finger to pinky), I’m wearing Respect the World, a shimmering jade green; Stolen Kisses, a sparkling pinky-red, Virtuous Violet, a dazzling purple haze, and No Limits, a rich black bursting with sparkles. There are seven awesome shades to choose from: all sparkling, all matte and all on trend.

What do you think of the shimmering matte polishes? Is the irony a little too much for you? Or are you loving the combo?

Go Goth! for Halloween with OPI

Halloween is probably one of my favourite holidays for the simple reason that I get the chance to experiment with wacky colours and it’s actually acceptable! Are you excited for it? If not, OPI is about to get you in the spooky spirit of Halloween.

Go Goth! is an adorable collection of nail polish minis inspired by the ghoulish holiday. The set comes with four dark, shimmer shades and a lace cuff bracelet to finish off the goth look. In the photo below, I have on Nevermore, which is the blackened purple shade. The lacquered finish is lustrous and utterly chic.

The other three shades are Unripened, a glittering teal (awesome!!), Sanguine, a shimmering blood-red shade and Obscurity, a matte black with a finish that’s anything but dull. (It kind of borders on dark grey.) All four shades are hot for fall 2010 and the gothic set-up is just so festive–which I adore. And don’t let the minis fool you. These tiny bottles are equipped with the usual extra-wide OPI applicator brush so you won’t have any trouble experimenting with these shades.

As you already know, OPI is one of leading brands of nail colour in the world. All their polishes are toluene- and formaldehyde-free. The Go Goth! Halloween 2010 Mini Nail Lacquer Set ($16.95) is available at professional salons where OPI products are sold. You can check out their website for more info.

    Beauty for Breast Cancer Research

Breast Cancer Awareness Month has officially begun and it’s time for every one of us to do our part in joining the fight against this horrible disease. I’m very proud of all the beauty brands that have made the effort to help out this worthy cause by donating the proceeds of your purchases to Breast Cancer Research. Here are some of my favourite products devoted to raising funds for the cause this month.

One of my favourites this year is OPI’s Pink of Hearts Special Limited Edition Nail Lacquer ($10.95). This pearly pink polish has all the usual characteristics of an OPI polish: trendy, high quality and long-lasting. This polish also comes with an extra-wide brush so applying it evenly all over the nail is a cinch. Purchasing this bottle will help OPI donate $5,000 to Rethink Breast Cancer. You can find this awesome shade at salons that sell OPI. You can also visit their website for more retail info.

Estée Lauder is also a proud supporter of the cause this month with their Limited Edition Pink Ribbon Collection. One of my favourite sets from this collection (which also offers lip glosses and more) is the Evelyn Lauder Lip Set ($30). These three shades of lip colour were selected by Evelyn herself and I must say, great choices! The lipsticks are offered in these adorable high-shine cases that are designed to remind buyers they’ve supported a great cause every time they use it. The rich, shimmering lip colours are super hot, too. I’m a big fan of Rubellite (far left). It’s so gorgeous!

The last item isn’t exactly beauty-related but I just love it and had to share it with you. The Apollo Pink Tool Kit ($29.99), available at Canadian Tire, is a household must-have for every gal. Let’s face it: We ladies probably get more use out of tools than most of the men we know, anyway. Might as well opt for a tool kit that supports a great cause and has a feminine twist to it. The kit is 39 pieces and $1 from the sale of each one will be donated. You can also go for the 135-piece kit ($49.99) if you’re really handy. Two dollars from every one of those will be donated to Rethink Breast Cancer so you know your purchase is giving the world something much greater.

I have lots more goodies you can buy to support the cause this month so keep checking back for more details.

Fall Nail Polish by Joe Fresh Beauty

The new nail polish lineup from Joe Fresh is a going to be a huge hit this season. With loads of trendy colours in the mix, any one of these shades is a definite must. My first fave is the grey polish. This season, grey is the new black in everything from beauty to fashion. Stay on trend with this matte variation of the shade on your fingernails.

I’m also loving the blue and greens, which are also very hot colours for fall. The white polish (centre) is a celeb-worthy nail colour sported by Hollywood stars like Kim Kardashian. It’s a very trend matte top coat.

If you know Joe Fresh polishes well, you’ll know these adorable little bottles contain some top quality product at a fraction of the price. Get a bottle for $4 or buy 3 for only $10. You can’t really argue with prices like that.

What are your faves in the collection? It’s a touch choice for me, but I’m going to go with forest green. It’s so chic this fall.

Fall 2010 Designer Series Nail Lacquers by OPI

This fall, OPI is launching a new collection called Designer Series featuring some glam nail lacquers. Overflowing with shimmer and shine, these sparkling polishes are an instant classic. I am a big fan of Radiance (silver, pictured) and Magic (blue, pictured).

The jewel-inspired polishes have a metallic finish. They give the nails a smooth, shimmering, platinum-like look. I tried out Radiance myself and as you can see by the image below, the nail polish is really intense and hyper-trendy.

Magic is a great addition to any fall nail polish collection, as well, because deep blues are really making a statement this season. From eye makeup and polish to clothing and shoes, some of the world’s most renowned designers hit the runways with navy tones for fall 2010. The cooler season always brings in darker hues but these shimmering polishes prove that dark doesn’t have to be boring.

The Designer Series collection from OPI offers 11 sparkling nail lacquers and one top coat. As usual, this collection is DBP-, Toluene- and Formaldehyde-free. Plus, the polishes come with an extra wide brush that makes application a cinch. Each bottle will retail for $15.95 in professional salons and spas starting in September.
