Aveda Gives Us a Sneak Peek into SS2011

I know we’re barely over summer 2010 and we’re just getting ready for fall, but Aveda has shared an awesome new look for next summer that I just had to show you now. I’m loving this complex braid Odile Gilbert from Aveda styled at Jason Wu’s SS2011 Fashion Week Show in NYC last week.

The sophisticated, 70s-inspired braid is going to be a hit for next summer but there’s no reason why you can’t start sporting the hot new look now. Be ahead of the trend game by scoring this look with Aveda‘s helpful tips.

To get the look, start with Aveda Smooth Infusion™ Style-Prep Smoother™ to smooth and tame flyaways. Pull the hair back into four sections around the nape of the neck and spray with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray to give the hair a shiny, flexible finish. Wrap each section of hair in ribbon that matches your hair colour. Tie four braids and spray with Aveda Control Force™ Firm Hold Hair Spray to keep the looking from going astray.

Tie the braids together with a thick piece of fabric (like the one pictured) and pin the bottom to the top of the braids. Add some bobby pins to secure the hairstyle in place and add a touch more hairspray. It sounds a little complicated but it’s actually super easy to do on someone else. Pair up with a friend and try the look out on each other.

What do you think of the modified braid trend? Love or hate?

Steal Julia Roberts’ Eat, Pray, Love Beauty Look

Tuesday night, Julia Roberts attended the premiere of new, much-talked about film: Eat, Pray, Love in NYC. I’m absolutely loving Julia’s seemingly natural look that isn’t overpowering but is still fancy enough for the red carpet.

Genevieve Herr, Lancôme‘s celebrity makeup artist, got Julia ready for the premiere and she shared her tips with Beauty Booty 411. Here’s all the info you need on snagging Julia’s elegant, chic and modern look which perfectly complemented her sleek black outfit.

To get that flawless complexion, Genevieve used Teint Miracle Foundation. This is actually a new product that will only be launching in November. It’s a radiance-boosting foundation and judging by how it looks on Julia, I’m loving it already. If it’s good enough for a red carpet event, it’s certainly good enough for me.

She also used Laura Mercier Secret Concealer and Secret Brightening Powder to conceal Julia’s flaws and illuminate her skin. The best way to get a flawless finish is to apply concealer to problem areas, pat it with the fingertips, apply foundation and smooth it over with powder.

To achieve that soft smoky eye, Genevieve dipped into Lancôme‘s new French Coquette Collection for fall with Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony and the French Touch Color Design Quad for the plum/black combo. (FYI, I just received some samples of this collection and they are absolutely incredible! More deets to come soon.) Genevieve used the khôl to line the eyes and blend. The simplest and most efficient way to make a smoky eye sultry is to use a khôl liner because it smudges so perfectly. Then she finished off with Définicils Precious Cells Mascara.

For Julia’s barely-there lip colour, Genevieve used a few different products. She started with Le Lipstique Lip Liner in Sheer Natural, then applied some Color Design Lipstick in Love It! and some classic Juicy Tubes Gloss in Spring Fling to finish it off. This is why I always say a tube of gloss is essential!

Try following Genevieve’s routine and you’ll be sure to score yourself a gorgeous look and loads of compliments.
