Give Your Eyes a Dash of Colourization

While all makeup really floats my boat, I have to confess I’m slightly more addicted to eyeshadow than anything else. Every day I opt for a new colour combo to match my outfit. Actually, I plan the outfit around the eye makeup! So that explains why I’m bubbling with excitement for MAC‘s summer limited edition Colourization collection which is slated to hit stores July 29 and isn’t expected to last past September 9. Though my gut tells me these funky colours will do so well that they may not even make it until then.

Keep reading to find out which funky new eyeshadow and liner are my new summer favourites! keep reading

Stila Strikes South Beach This Summer

As soon as I discovered this Striking in South Beach palette, I fell in love. Over the holidays this past year, the Fabulous in Fiji palette was such a hit (I still use mine!) that Stila has decided to come out with a few more limited edition summer palettes this year. From July to October, a new palette will be released every month.

I am loving the purple eyeshadow hue at the bottom right of the eyeshadow quad. It’s so gorgeous. To get a complete summer-ready look, this palette also has an adorable rosy blush and an essential South Beach-themed bronzer, which is totally new.

But the absolute best part is that each palette has a “How To” face chart with pro tips from Stila‘s Global Director of Artistry, Sarah Lucero. So if makeup application isn’t always easy for you, you’ll be so grateful to have this little gem in your hands.

I can’t wait to see the next palettes. I promise to keep you posted every month. Striking in South Beach ($18) will be hitting Shopper’s Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques and Murale on July 1, next week.

Sephora Loves Canada, and We Love Them Right Back!

Sephora’s latest combo palette is called Sephora Loves Canada and it’s totally adorable. It’s jam-packed with $60 worth of cosmetics but retails for only $18! I love me a good bargain.

I am a huge fan of this limited edition summertime palette because it includes some of my fave colours of the season. There are 9 khaki, beige and pink eyeshadows that can be mixed and match in a million different ways. I love how this nude palette is making the most of the season’s trendiest colours.

The palette also includes 4 romantic lip glosses varying from deep to baby pink. And to finish off your summertime look with this collection, the palette also includes a gorgeous pale pink blush to accent the cheeks and illuminate your entire face. Blush pinks and neutrals are hot for spring 2011 so this budget-friendly goody is a can’t-miss!

It’s available at Sephora now but only for a limited time. Will you be heading to a store near you to snag this amazing product?

Is This Hello Kitty Palette Not Super Adorable?

I know, I’m a sucker for the cute and the adorable! Put it in a pretty package and I’m sold! This Limited Edition Hello Kitty earthy palette is called Memoirs of a Kitty ($46). Even the name is cute.

Inside, you’ll find my favourite springtime shades. The neutral eyeshadows are everything we saw on the runways at fashion Week. The nude trend is as trendy in the makeup as it is in clothing. I also love the sparkling brown shade that can be used as a liner to complete the natural look, or as a crease shadow for an evening-worthy gaze.

Under the shadows are two awesome powder blushes. There’s a rose blush and a peachy one. While the pinkish hue is super pretty, I’m so feeling peach bush this summer. I’ve become obsessed with it in the past two weeks, for some reason.

You can snag this cutie palette at Sephora starting in May but it will only be available for a limited time.

    Benefit: Her Name Was Glowla

Makeup palettes such as this adorable one from Benefit make me wish it was the holidays all year! I haven’t yet had the chance to buy any ornaments or decorations for the holidays but I have already stocked up on some amazing holiday beauty products. You can see what my priorities are…

Murale is certainly one of my favourite makeup shops. (The only downside is that I get a touch too carried away.) This holiday season, aside from the amazing Lippmann nail polishes I showed you last week and some other fab items, Murale is also carrying Her Name Was Glowla, a gorgeous new makeup palette from Benefit Cosmetics that’s just for the holidays.

What really makes this palette so nice is the nude, barely-there theme. With trendy nude hues, this palette is all about accentuating a natural-looking glow. The nude trend is one of the hottest of the season so you can’t go wrong with this kit.

It comes with two complexion enhancers that will leave you wondering how you ever lived without them before, soft earth-toned shadows and an applicator brush, a gorgeous coral blush with brush, a shimmering nude gloss and the ever-popular Bad Gal Mascara. The entire Her Name Was Glowla Makeup Palette is available at Murale for $40.

I am obsessed with the natural glow look and a shimmering gloss never evades me. Spoil yourself this season or give your best gal pal the ultimate stocking stuffer.

New YSL Makeup for Fall 2010

It seems I’ve got fall 2010 on the brain these days. Although I love me some summer sun, I am overly excited for the trends of the upcoming season. This is going to be one of the hottest seasons in beauty yet. The play on intense colours really works.

I just received some samples of the new YSL makeup collection for autumn. OMG! It’s all I could have ever asked for and more. Pictured on the left are some of the new products, including the Rouge Volupté Perle lipstick ($38) which is a very smooth, nourishing lip colour and Ombres Duo Lumières ($52 in #31 Bleu de Minuit/Or Solaire).

The eyeshadow palette is by far one of the nicest duos of the season. When it comes to YSL, I don’t have to remind you that the products are of superior quality and the textures are both rich and hydrating. I’m never disappointed in these products. But what I particularly like about this palette is that it combines fall’s trendiest shade, blue, with a shimmering gold, which is always in style according to moi. The combo is just gorgeous on and the colours match the season well. Plus, the blue eyeshadow has a hint of purple in it so it’ll really enhance brown eyes. I’m wearing these colours today and they look awesome!

This palette is a great way to experiment with intense hues without opting for the traditional smoky eye, which is a little passé this year. The smoky look is still hot but it’s time to say goodbye to traditional black and grey and move into blues, greens and shimmering shades that will illuminate your gaze and make your eyes pop.

This palette, along with loads more YSL autumn makeup products, will be hitting stores in September. Keep checking the blog regularly because I have lots more info to share on some of their new items, including their to-die-for nail colours of the season (you’ll absolutely loves!) and shimmering blush palette.

Must-Have: Dior Travel Studio Makeup Palette

Although I receive tons of products to test (probably more than I have time to go through) when I spotted this Dior Travel Studio Makeup Palette at the Duty-Free shop at the airport, I threw my cash down on the table faster than you could bat an eyelash. I fell in love with it.

I’ve had this kit since the end of April but the blogging world is a busy one. But FINALLY, I can tell you all about it. It’s one of my favourite tools and since it’s limited edition, I am eagerly awaiting the next installment of Dior‘s Travel Studio kits. I don’t think I could ever tire of them.

This one is great for a few reasons. First of all, it comes with everything you need to get made up so if you’re on-the-go, this is tiny compact is all you need to pack. Travel kits sometimes lack a few essentials but this one’s got it all. The powder foundation is smooth, translucent, covering and leaves a flawless finish. The lip glosses are not only shimmering (which I love) but they are really long-lasting, which I was surprised about. I love that the kit comes with a small light brown liner to match all three of the lip glosses, which are more of lipstick, by the way. Shiny like a gloss, but non-stick and long-lasting like a lipstick.

The eyeshadows are great for blending on the eyelid and I usually pick my colour combo to match my outfit. The great part is that all the colours match so you can mix and match whichever ones you feel like. There are no rules with this kit! I personally like these blendable shades for creating a washed out look on my lower lid (where it looks like one colour just fades into another). Plus, the Travel Studio Kit comes with makeup brushes, eyeliner and, of course, that essential tube of Diorshow mascara, their best mascara ever (in my opinion!).

I actually bought this little gem at the airport in the Dominican Republic but you can find it at most Dior counters and duty-free shops around the globe. If you can’t find this exact one, don’t despair. Dior comes out with a new Travel Studio Kit every so often and they’re always amazing. I was able to snag this one for $65 US and honestly, I’m not 100% sure what the retail price in Canada would be, but I wold estimate somewhere around $85. If you can head south of the border, pick one up there because the exchange rate makes shopping in the US a steal for us! If you’re going to splurge one one product this year, this should definitely be it.

Giorgio Armani: Bronze Mania 2010 Makeup Palette

Tomorrow is the first day of June and soon, you’ll be very excited about that. I received a sample of Bronze Mania 2010 from Giorgio Armani about a month ago and since then, I have become an addict. It’ll be available for your shopping pleasure starting in June.

The Bronze Mania Palette is a limited edition makeup kit that includes an amazing earthy bronzing powder and 4 brightly coloured eyeshadows underneath. This palette is designed to highlight and enhance your summer glow and I can tell you from personal experience that it does the job well.

Since I came back from my vacation in Punta Cana, I have been depending on this palette to highlight my tan. Aside from the way it complements a tan, the eyeshadow colours also enhance brown eyes and hazel eyes which is such a rarity. The eyeshadows are also of the shimmering kind which I, personally, love. Shimmering makeup works best at night because it can be a little much for the during the day usually, but in this case, you can opt for a single shade on your lower lid because the makeup isn’t heavy at all.

Of course, when it comes to Giorgio Armani, you can expect good quality and this product is no exception. The makeup is very light and smooth and it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing any at all. In summer, that’s sort of a must for me. No one wants to feel their makeup on their face when it’s nearly 30 degrees outside. I am very pleased with how light the bronzing powder is and I like that even though it’s a dark shade, it’s easy to blend and leaves a matte finish.

The Bronze Mania Palette by Giorgio Armani is going to hit Holt Renfrew stores across Canada tomorrow and will be retailing for $95. It’s also a limited edition product so don’t waste any time if you think you might want to purchase this one. Once it hits the stores, I can’t imagine it remaining on the shelves for too long.

P.S. If you’re looking for tips on how to apply bronzers without looking like a pumpkin, check the blog this week for my interview with a pro makeup artist. I’ll have all the info you need on how to apply bronzer the right way so you can look your best this summer.

    Sephora beauty on the go

The Sephora Color Play 5-in-1 palette is the ultimate buy for the beauty junkie this summer. As an eyeshadow addict, I have always been a fan of Sephora’s combo kits but there has always been one little problem with them. I can’t bring them with me for touch-ups or weekends away.

As usual, Sephora seems to have read my mind and came up with this on-the-go style kit. There are five colour palettes which each include 10 eyeshadows, two lip glosses and one blush. Each section pops out so you can place it in the carrying case and bring it along with you everywhere you go.

The best part? This kit contains $150 worth of makeup but retails for only $38.50. It’s the perfect addition to your summer makeup collection. I love the vibrant colour combinations I can make. I am a huge fan of the purple combos and green combos (pictured below).

I have tested loads of eyeshadows and I find Sephora to be one of the longest lasting brands around. Plus, their bright colour choices seem to be endless.

Check out Sephora.com for more info on this amazing palette.
