In case you missed the memo, the black and grey smoky eye is over! Not that it isn’t nice anymore but it just isn’t as wild as it once was. This year, turn up the heat with your smoky look by throwing in some colour. As you know, MAKE UP FOR EVER gave me a complementary smoky eye on my birthday a few weeks back with their Limited Edition Smoky Palette ($50) and here’s what I think of it.Tags: beauty, beauty trend, colour, fall 2011, green, limited edition, MAKE UP FOR EVER, makeup, mascara, palette, purple, smoky eye, Smoky Lash Mascara
Didn’t I tell you the purple trend was going to be all the rage this spring? Estée Lauder, one of my favourite top-quality-yet-affordable brands has just launched their violet-inspired makeup collection at Murale, Holts, The Bay and Sears.
I think this collection is a particularly wearable one. While lavender is hot, it doesn’t necessarily complement every skin tone out there. If the season’s purple eyeshadow trend is one you’re dying to try but you have a pinkish complexion, this collection is perfect for you. The Pure Color Five Color EyeShadow Palette in Wild Violet ($48) pulls off the shade of the season by pairing it with neutral tones. So if full-on purple is too much for you, you can choose to opt for just a hint of it instead.
I love the elegance of this palette and it’s so easy to make different combos suitable for day or night. Plus, you can opt for Pure Color EyeShadow in Sugar Cube or Untamed Violet ($22.50 each) to make your own eyeshadow combinations.
These amazing eyeshadows, along with the rest of the makeup collection and all-new Wild Elixir Fragrance ($68) are all available in store now. I know it’s still the dead of winter and spring seems so far off but I swear that thinking about spring actually makes me feel warmer! As I showed you last week, Lancôme is releasing a spring-infused makeup collection focusing on one of the hottest shades predicted for spring 2011: lavender.
The ultimate feminine, 70’s-inspired colour is resurfacing this year in Lancôme’s Ultra-Lavande Collection by Aaron De Mey and it’s taking pastels to a whole new level. I am not a huge pastel fan to be honest, but lavender like this works for me.
The Butterflies Fever Blush ($48) is one of my favourites. It’s the perfect way to throw this trendy shade into the mix without overdoing it. Paired with a subtle pink and various shades of lavender, this blush is great for highlighting cheekbones and giving the contour of the face just a subtle hint of this vibrant trend. It’s so pretty.
Next on my list of faves from Lancôme’s 70’s-inspired Ultra-Lavande Collection is Le Vernis ($16) is available in Lavender and Disco Silver, both on trend for the warmer season. The lavender lacquer is an opaque one and it screams summer! If you want to embrace the trend but aren’t comfortable with wearing purple makeup, this is the perfect alternative. I absolutely love this shade and can’t wait till we get some warm weather to match it.
For the gloss gal (that’s me), you’ll absolutely love Color Fever Natural Origin Gloss ($31). It’s a sweet, slightly metallic lip colour with a high-shine finish. It’s so gorgeous. Those these are my faves and the items I find to be most versatile, the collection also includes shimmering eyeshadows, eyeliner and lipstick. Keep your eyes peeled for this new collection this coming spring.Tags: beauty, blush, colour, eyeliner, eyeshadow, Lancôme, lavender, lip gloss, makeup, nail polish, new collection, online shopping, purple, shopping, spring, spring 2011., trend
While the thought of entering a busy Walmart on a Saturday morning scares me, I’d actually brave the crowds just to get my hands on these exclusive Nicole by OPI shades. Kicking off the new year with some vibrant polishes, OPI has successfully released another slew of trend-approved lacquers.
With four shades ranging from reds to purples, there’s something for every feminine gal out there. Personally, I’m in love with Count on Me which is a shimmering lavender shade. To give you a quick heads up, spring 2011 is going to be exploding with lavender from clothing to makeup. It’s a huge trend for the new year and once again, Nicole by OPI is ahead of it all. Aside from the trendy shade, I’m also really loving the pearly finish of it.
For the woman who loves to be on trend but prefers a more classic and sophisticated look, Never Give Up, a deep plum lacquer, is going to be right up your alley. Moving into the reds in this collection is He’s A Keeper. This particular red encompasses all the characteristics of the classic signature shade that has topped the trend charts countless times over the last few decades.
The more adventurous girl may want to experiment with Got Style?, a matte dirty rose (pictured below) that gives the traditional shade a stylish twist. You can find all four of these new polishes exclusively at Walmart and Walmart.com starting this month.
