Review: Arbonne It’s a Long Story Mascara

Every woman looks for certain qualities in their mascara to give them either longer, fuller, bolder, darker or thicker lashes. Read on to find out which benefits Arbonne’s, It’s a long story mascara will deliver.

As its name suggests, Arbonne’s It’s a Long Story mascara does in fact lengthen lashes. Mascara’s all promise to deliver different qualities, but I was very impressed by the lengthening ability of this mascara. I put two coats of it on, after using an eyelash curler, and my lashes definitely looked longer. Read on to find out why I loved it.

Golden Globes: Celebrity Hits and Misses

I look forward to award shows only to see the red carpet looks of my favourite stars. I love the see the elegant dresses of stars like Katherine Zeta Jones and the quirky ensembles put together by out-there stars like Helena Bonham Carter (two different colour shoes? She’s awesome).

One of my all-time favourite actresses is the talented and ridiculously beautiful Halle Berry. I loved her look last night. From her tousled hair to her subdued makeup and nude lips, she perfectly offset her elegant and super sexy outfit. The reason I love her subdued makeup is because it shows us all that you don’t need three pounds of makeup to look marvellous. True, Halle has got some amazing genes that we all wish we had, but her subtle smoky eye and natural lips made her look classic, elegant and chic, as usual.

I think Natalie Portman’s look was also a huge hit. She looked so adorable in that pink Viktor & Rolf gown which complemented her natural pregnancy glow. Natalie went for the just bitten red lips look and it worked. She matched it with a sophisticated hair twist and it was the perfect combo. Congrats on this mommy-to-be’s Golden Globe win for her role in Black Swan and congrats on her Beauty Booty-approved look.

January Jones. What can I say? I was a little on the fence about her look but in the end, I’ve decided I love it. Her scarlet red lips and vamp blond hairstyle gave her an old Hollywood look. The bright red dress (which seemed to be the colour of choice for most celebs, along with forest green) tells me that red is going to be a hot trend this spring so it’s nowhere near over in the beauty world. Get yourself a scarlet red lip colour ASAP.

Speaking of Scarlett, this brings to my one style diss of the evening. Scarlett Johansson’s hairstyle was, unfortunately, just atrocious. It sort of reminded me of the Bride of Frankenstein’s hairdo and I really didn’t like it. It wouldn’t have matched quirky celeb but I expected more elegance and sophistication from this bombshell. Overall: disappointed.

Which celebs do you think rocked it last night? And which ones do you think need to hire new stylists?

Fragrance Alert: Nina L’Elixir by Nina Ricci

Last year, Ricci Ricci was one of the top fragrances of the year and it’s still one of my faves. This year, Nina Ricci is releasing yet another fabulous fragrance called Nina L’Elixir. If you love fresh, subtle scents, you’re definitely going to want to try this one out.

I’ll pretend for a second that I’m not completely enthralled by the adorable apple-shaped bottle and tell you about the scent itself. The light and sweet aroma of the apple fruit is a very soft and unique smell. The scent is modern yet classic and above all, it’s feminine and delicate. I’m really not a fan of heavy perfumes and if you’ll notice, in any of my fragrance blog posts, you’ll see the words “feminine” and “light” every single time.

To me, those are the most important characteristics in a fragrance. I receive lots of perfumes to test for you but I only take the time to blog about the ones I really like best and I believe you won’t regret spending your money on. If you’re not big on heavy, overpowering scents, you can take my word for it: Nina L’Elixir is amazing.

Launching next month, Nina L’Elixir Eau de Parfum will be available at Sephora (the beauty mecca), drug stores, department stores and Holt Renfrew. Keep in mind that as opposed to eau de toilette, eau de parfums are much more potent so you don’t need to use as much. It’s a pretty wise investment if you want to have one luxe fragrance you can count on for special occasions.

    Eau de Parfum Spray 30ml $52.00, 50ml $78.00, 80ml $95.00

Lady Million: The New Fragrance from Paco Rabanne

I have been a fan of One Million, Paco Rabanne‘s scent for men, since it launched last September. It’s definitely a fragrance you want to smell on your man. (Honestly guys, this scent is an automatic deal-maker!) Now, Paco Rabanne is releasing the female version of the scent, Lady Million.

The female counterpart of the fragrance is coming to The Bay, Sears, Sephora, Shopper’s Drug Mart, Jean Coutu and London Drugs in September 2010. Ladies, look forward to it! Not only is the diamond-shaped bottle absolutely gorgeous, but the eau de parfum is fresh, sensual and woody.

I was really captivated by it the first time I smelled it. Paco Rabanne is known for his trend-setting ways and ever-popular fragrances and Lady Million lives up to the enormous reputation the Spanish-French designer has created for himself over the years. It’s made for a woman who’s independent, stunning, creative and somewhat rebellious. Lady Million, while feminine in every way, also breaks the mould with its spicy aroma and glamorous bottle.

If you’re shopping around for a new scent, you definitely need to try out Lady Million ($110 for 80ml, $80 for 50ml) and snag a One Million ($78 for 100ml) for your man, while you’re at it. You’ll love it on him.
