On the Pucci runways, metallic makeup made a comeback. Thick gold eyeshadow combined with smudged kohl eyeliner is a gorgeous mixture. I love the one-tone metallic lids for summer. What do you think of this look? Yay or nay?

2010 Lancôme Holiday Collection by L’Wren Scott

Known for her uniquely feminine and captivating fashion creations on the red carpet, loved by Hollywood and the public alike, L’Wren Scott is anything but ordinary. With her flawless sense of tailoring and eye for detail, her NYFW shows are always one step ahead of the trend game. Like I always say, beauty and fashion are linked. Each season they share trends, colour schemes, textures and more. So it’s not surprise that a fashion guru like L’Wren Scott is behind one of the hottest beauty collections of the entire year.

While Lancôme’s Holiday 2010 Collection by L’Wren Scott is chock full of products you’re sure to love, today I’m focusing on my two personal favourites. Recently, I’ve been neglecting my once go-to glosses for pure matte lipsticks instead. This holiday season, I’ve become an Absolu Rouge ($35) addict, wearing the emblematic burgundy red hue on my lips everywhere from work to cocktail parties.

The creamy lip colour lasts all day and the subtle shade gives the lips that gentle touch of holiday cheer, without going overboard. With SPF 12, the lip colour not only colours the lips perfectly without any need for liner, but it also keeps them hydrated and protected from UV damage which, yes, is still a cause for concern during the winter months.

Among the other fab products in the collection is the Ombre Absolue Palette Quad ($54). I’m a huge eyeshadow lover in general. I’d rather go without blush than eyeshadow. This shimmering quad is the true definition of a smoky eye (so holiday) and its long-lasting, radiant eyeshadow colours are sure to have you glowing all night long.

For your upcoming Christmas get-togethers and NYE bashes, look to Lancôme’s Holiday 2010 Collection by L’Wren Scott. It’s the perfect collection to turn to for a subtle, classic and elegant look.

    Lancôme Partners With Denis Gagnon

Local designer Denis Gagnon has made a name for himself not only in Montreal, but all over the world. As one of Canada’s top designers, it’s no surprise that he’s teamed up with one of the leading, most coveted beauty brands out there: Lancôme.

While Spring/Summer 2011 couldn’t be further from our minds at the moment, the runway was ablaze in Montreal last week with chic trends that will make their way to your closet next season.

Denis Gagnon has taken a very rock ‘n’ roll approach to his new collection. And with every fashionable and fabulous collection comes a beauty trend you won’t want to miss. I am personally, loving the makeup by Lora Spiga, makeup artist for Lancôme, especially the eyes.

To offset the just-bitten lips, Lancôme opted for thick eyeliner on both the upper and lower lash line. Rather than opting for dark black liner only, Lancôme complemented Denis’ fab collection with green, coral and indigo blue eyeliners, as well.

I love how the colour is lightly smudged for a soft finish and I am definitely a fan of the cat eye look, too. To get the look, Aquatique Shadow Base ($28) was used to unify the lid. Once the base was prepped, Artliner in Black ($37) was used or Le Crayon Khol ($27) in various shades for each model. To finish off, a soft wash of Colour Design Eye Shadow ($50) was dabbed on and smudged with the fingers to emphasize the lids and a few coats of Définicils Precious Cells Mascara ($34) was applied.

Applying the liner is simple. If you want to experiment with the trend yourself, just choose the colour you like best and feel most comfortable with (Tip: opt for a colour that will make your eye colour pop) and draw the top lash line. Start in the inner corner and stretch the liner towards the hairline and slowly curving the line upwards. Then do the same on the bottom, except curve it upward to meet the top line. The best part about the look is that is needs to be slightly smudged so you can easily conceal any mistakes you make along the way.

Simple Smoky Eyes with Kat Von D

The oh-so-coveted smoky eye look is always a favourite. Applying it yourself? Not always such a favourable experience. A smoky eye can’t afford to be done wrong because there’s a fine line between a rockeresque gaze and looking like someone slapped you across the face with a two by four. Today, I’m going to let you in on a few tips to help you learn to apply a smoky eye the easy way.

Although my life seems to revolve around learning how to use makeup, I’m actually willing to admit I’ve had trouble perfecting the look myself. So much so that I decided it just wasn’t for me. But on a recent shopping trip to Sephora (the mother of temptation) I found Kat Von D’s True Romance Eyeshadow Palette Adora ($44) and just had to try it out.

The infamous tattoo artist is known not only for the body art she sports, but her ability to create unique and and edgy designs. Her makeup collection is no different. Though the line offers a variety of colours, the dark, rocker colours are the most captivating.

I experimented with the smoky eye and finally mastered it with this kit! The trick is to apply a variety of dark shades to create depth and the True Romance Eyeshadow Palette offers tons of great shades. I start with the sparkling dark purple and apply it only on my lower lid. Then, I added some of the darkest metallic grey to the crease and the lightest metallic grey to the brow bone. To add a seductive gaze, I dab a touch of the darkest sparkling blue shade with a stomper brush and with the same brush, I swept some more of the dark blue under my lower lash line for a thick dark line.

The look is even more intense in person that is is the photo above and it’s totally to-die-for. Although the look is entirely dark, the slight hint of colour is visible under certain lights and it really makes the eyes pop. (It was just a little too hard to catch that in a photo.) If an intense gaze suits your fancy this year, give it a whirl with Kat Von D‘s glamorous collection.

The Smoky Eye Step by Step:

In case my explanation is too hard for you to follow, here is the broken down play-by-play so you can recreate the look yourself.

    1. With a loose crease brush, apply the dark shimmering purple to lid. A loose brush will give the makeup a smoky finish. Tightly packed brushes make the shadow look messy.
    2. With a crease brush again, apply the dark metallic grey to the crease only. Glide the brush back and forth a few times until the makeup looks even.
    3. With a Q-tip or fingertip, apply the lightest shade to the brow bone to open up the eyes. Feel free to dab a dot of the same colour to the inner corner if you want to brighten it up.
    4. This is the most crucial step. With a stomper brush, apply the dark shimmering blue shadow to the outer corner of the eye. The colour should extend no further than one-third of the eyelid. Glide the stomper brush along the lower lash line and smudge with your fingertips. That’s it! Good luck!

If you still have trouble, feel free to email me personally with your Qs.

NARS and the Monotone Eyes Beauty Trend

There’s a big change in eye colour happening for fall 2010. I am a really big fan of combining different eyeshadow shades on the eyes, but designers like D&G, Viktor & Rolf and Gucci have really turned me onto monotone eyes this year.

The look is very much a 70s-inspired trend that’s oozing with sophistication. The Less is More trend (which I told you about last week) is lending itself to every aspect of makeup this season. To get this look, all you need is one striking colour to call attention to your eyes. I suggest spreading the colour a little thicker over your lids and crease while leaving just a faint hint of the eyeshadow colour on the brow bone.

A great product for achieving this look is this NARS Single Eyeshadow in Daphne. I love everything about it. The colour is intense, vibrant, on trend and long-lasting. I love how the matte texture really contrasts from the shimmering trend of the summer and, as usual, with NARS you know you’re getting great quality products.

Experiment with the monotone trend before you diss it. After spotting it on the runways, I just had to try it out on myself and I loved it. Give it a go and let me know what you think!
