The Ultimate in Hair Luxury: Thalasso by Patrice Beauté

Winter is slowly coming to an end (finally!) but it never parts without leaving us with something to remember it by, like dry and damaged hair. One more reason why I’m never quite sad to see it go. Naturally, we want to kick off the spring with luscious locks that we’re proud to show off. Before we can do that, we need to repair the damage caused by extreme temperatures and other environmental factors or from the damage of artificial colour.

Patrice Beauté may be a line of hair products you’re not familiar with but it’s time to get to know it if you want your hair to look and feel like exquisite silk. Thalasso is a line of hair care products from Patrice Beauté that targets extremely dry and damaged hair. Made with ingredients like pomegranate, African pepper and purple orchids, these products revive extremely dehydrated hair.

To determine whether or not this collection was good as it sounded, I gave it the ultimate test and had it tested out by 4 different people: myself, my sister and two friends. The results came back unanimous: positive feedback all around.

My friend’s girlfriend, Saddy, called me in a panic. She told me she tried every possible product she could think of after torturing her hair with her flat iron and told me she simply couldn’t get her hair back to normal again. She was super discouraged so I handed her the Thalasso Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner. One week later she called to thank me and described her hair as “softer than ever.”

My sister Vicki, who regularly dyes her hair and swears by her flat iron, has been using the Hydrating Mask. Meant to be used on a weekly basis, she says the product leaves her hair soft and silky smooth. Plus, using this mask means you don’t need to use any other thermal protecting products.

My friend Christie tried out one of the best products in the collection: 2 Phase Moisture and Shine. This leave-in treatment was made to deeply penetrate dry and damaged hair, leaving it both hydrated and shiny. According to Christie (who normally has dry hair), the product instantly detangles her hair and makes it straighter and softer. Plus, she said it smells great and after prolonged use, has made her hair easier to manage.

Finally, I tried out the Hydrating Elixir. This oil spray can be used on hair and skin. I’ve been using it on my ridiculously dry split ends. Just a few quick sprays on wet hair before blow-drying and my hair is soft, smooth and my split ends are that much less noticeable.

REDKEN Time Reset Products for Aged and Damaged Hair

REDKEN recently released a new line of hair care products called Time Reset. In much the same way that skin ages, hair ages. If you have relatively long hair, the hair close to the end has been through years of combing, brushing, washing, heat styling and environmental stressors. Time Reset works in three steps to repair that kind of damage and protect your hair from more damage.

The products are also intended for older women. As we age, our hair tends to become drier and more brittle. So if you have excessively damaged hair (which has prematurely aged) or you’re over 40, REDKEN‘s new Time Reset is something you may want to check out.

Here’s how it works: In phase 1, the products work to coat the hair follicle and protect them from further damage. In phase 2, the fortifying ingredients within the products penetrate the hair and increase its resilience. In the third and final phase, the product reinvigorates and thickens hair.

My lovely test subject (a.k.a. Mom) has been testing the shampoo ($15.49) and conditioner ($17.89) and she says they have made her hair softer. I recommend using the reparative mask ($23.39) if you have extra dry and damaged hair or are over 40 at least once a week. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times: hair masks will work wonders on your locks and everyone should use one. You can also try the protective lotion ($19.99) to help create an invisible barrier that will protect your hair. Just two to three pumps of product is all you’ll need to protect your locks from environmental stressors like excessive humidity, heat or cold.

The new line is available only in salons where other REDKEN products are sold.

Colouring your hair? Ask for INOA

If you colour your hair at the salon regularly, you can’t afford to miss out on this info. L’Oréal Professionnel is known for amazing hair products so it’s no surprise they’re the first to engineer this new product: INOA. This in-salon hair colour system was introduced a few months ago but I was reluctant to share it with my readers for one simple reason. It was new and I didn’t know whether or not it would be as good as they said it would be. It sort of sounded to good to be true.

But my journalistic skills have been at work the last few months and after compiling some research from clients and salon owners, I’m able to sincerely tell you how great INOA is. It’s the first hair colour that doesn’t smell. Normally, they have a really strong odour which has always made me wonder why anyone would colour their hair to begin with.

INOA, unlike any other hair colouring system, is odourless and is 45% gentler than regular hair dyes so it’s far less damaging. If you dye your hair monthly, you need to get to a salon that uses INOA products. I can’t tell you how much damage regular dyes can cause over time. If there’s a better alternative that yields the exact same, long-lasting colour, why not, right?

INOA is ammonia free AND permanent; a combination which has never been possible before. Plus, it’s rich in nourishing oils so it strengthens hair while it infuses it with colour. It’ll also maintain your hair’s natural and essential amino acids. This way, your hair won’t be stripped of its natural elements during the colouring process. So far, I’ve heard only great feedback from hair stylists and clients alike. If customers like how their hair feels after using INOA and they agree the colour lasts just as long, then I’m sold.

You can check out the website to locate an INOA salon near you. It seems salons all over Canada have already switched to this new product so you shouldn’t have trouble locating one.

OPI’s Summer Flutter Nail Polish is almost here

If you’re obsessed with nail polish, you’ll be very happy to know that OPI is adding a few more limited edition summer colours to their already large array of nail polish shades.

Summer Flutter is hitting salons in early June, which is just a couple of weeks away. The four shades are: Flit A Bit, a bright orange shade; Flower-to-Flower, a super pretty hot pink; Catch Me In Your Net, a trendy teal shade; Wing It, a shimmering fuchsia (my personal fave).

As I’ve already mentioned, bright colours are a must this summer. If flashy eyeshadows or glosses are just too far out of your comfort zone, this nail polish collection is a great way to sport the brights trend without going too far overboard. Nails (especially toe nails) are fun to colour and less risky than opting for something like pink metallic lip gloss.

The funky Summer Flutter Limited Edition Collection from OPI (BTW, isn’t the display just adorable?) is on its way and each nail polish will retail for $10.95. For more info on where to find these new shades, you can check out or call 800-341-9999.

Which nail polish colours are you planning on experimenting with this summer? Are you going to dare to be bold? I myself just put shimmering purple on my nails, which is a huge change from the usual basic manicure I stick with. I was iffy about it at first, but now I’m loving it. I’m all over the bright colour trend this summer!

    Power tools for your hair

For those of you who don’t know me, I have super straight hair. When I say super straight, I mean pin straight. Curling irons? Useless on me. I have to spend hours with my hair in rollers under a very hot hair drying machine to get curly hair that turns into loose waves a mere hour later. So it’s not really worth the time or the money spent at the salon to get the look I want.

But my life changed when I discovered Rowenta Beauty last month. I have to say that I love the Rowenta Beauty hair dryer, but the flat iron is (ironically enough) the best thing that ever happened to me.

I’ll start with the Infini Pro Sensor hair dryer. It works great, has several different settings and I noticed my hair feels much softer after I dry it with the Rowenta Beauty blow dryer. It also has a sensor so if your hair is dry and you still have the dryer on it, it will turn itself off to keep from burning your mane.

Up next, my fave piece: The flat iron. It’s great for straightening hair but I don’t actually use it for that. I use it to curl my hair. I twist the Professional Titanium Ceramic Iron through my hair in the same way I would use a curling iron and in less than 15 minutes, my hair goes from flat to WOW! I took these pics for you this morning to show you the difference. The first image is my naturally straight, virtually uncurlable hair. The second is 15 minutes later after using the Rowenta flat iron to curl my locks.

The tool is a tad pricey ($219.99) but as far as I’m concerned, it’s worth every last cent. Because the flat iron heats up to 450 degrees (Fahrenheit), it can style your hair almost any way you want. The best part for me is that the curls look natural and they last. My hair still looks this spectacular after I’ve slept on it! As someone who has lived her whole life dreaming of the supposedly-impossible curl, I’m head-over-heels for this brand.

Oh ya, and I didn’t use even one spritz of hairspray. I try to avoid using products when I can and with the power of this iron, I don’t need anything else. My only suggestion is to use a thermal protecting spray before using the flat iron. It gets extremely hot and heat can be your hair’s worst enemy if you don’t protect it.

Rowenta Beauty products were used behind the scenes at Montreal Fashion Week and are sold exclusively in select salons. Check out their website, to find a salon near you.
