When you’re sitting in the sun for hours wearing your SPF (as you should be!) you feel protected, right? You know you’re blocking harmful rays from penetrating your skin and causing long-term damage. Quick question for you. While you’re protected body lounges by the pool or on the beach, what do you think is happening to your hair? If the sun damages your skin, it’s a given that it damages your hair, too.
I know I asked that question as though I’m a smarty pants, but the truth is, until I received the BC Sun Protect Line from Schwarzkopf Professional, I never thought about it either. But now that I know, it makes perfect sense!
As I mentioned probably a million times by now, I went to Punta Cana last month for some fun in the sun. Luckily, these products made it to my doorstep before I was done packing so I was able to bring them along.
I used the BC Sun Protect Shampoo ($14.50 – pictured above) everyday after the beach. The goal of this extra-mild shampoo is to cleanse your hair of salt and moisturize the scalp. If you don’t wear a hat when you’re out in the sun, trust me, you’re burning your scalp. The shampoo will help soothe a scalp burn. It also left my hair really soft and smelling great.
The BC Sun Protect Spray Conditioner ($16.50) is a must if you’re planning on spending a full day in the sun. Right after applying your SPF all over your body, apply this spray to your hair. It’ll protect your hair from the damage caused by UV rays. Sun damage can make your hair dry, weak and brittle. And if you have coloured hair, it can fade the colour.
My favourite product in this line is the BC Sun Protect After-Sun Treatment ($23.75). This was my saviour on vacation. Because my hair was protected with the Spray Conditioner before, my hair didn’t get too damaged. But I rarely remembered to reapply it on the beach so the salt water and the sizzling sun were still causing some damage. The spray foam penetrates quickly into the hair and repairs damage while detangling, as well.
If you use the shampoo and conditioner regularly, you’ll keep your hair protected all the time. If you don’t want to use it all year round, I suggest using the products in summer and most definitely using them if you’re planning a trip down south. The sun is so strong and can be potentially harmful if you’re not careful. Add these products to your summer checklist to keep your locks healthy all summer long. These products are avilable in salons now.
