You Need This: Tinted Moisturizer with SPF

I feel like a broken record but I spent the weekend in Miami this past weekend and I was mentally scarred by all the ultra-tanned people I saw. I’m talking sun spots and twice as many wrinkles as my almost-90-year-old grandmother used to have. It was horrible! Trust me, people. Nothing you do will prevent excess or premature wrinkles like SPF. And why not score one with a touch of colour so no one else realizes you’re hiding from the sun’s nasty UV rays.

Read on to find out why I adore this tinted moisturizer with SPF from B. Kamins.

Colour Me Gorgeous with MAC’s Newest Goodies

MAC‘s just released a ton of new goodies, I hardly know where to begin. I should probably start with the limited edition collection, Jeanius, because you can only snag these beautylicious items until April 7 (or while supplies last). I absolutely adore the denim-inspired feel of this collection. My first favourite is the eyeshadow. Pictured below is Diva in Distress ($23.50). It’s a pretty grey-tone eyeshadow with a silver pearl accent on it. Do you not love this adorable jean look?

Today I wore another great item from this collection, Riveting Rose Lipstick ($17.50). It’s a sheer deep burgundy colour with a bluish tint to it. It’s so gorgeous. This picture doesn’t do it justice. It’s not a opaque as you might think. It’s totally sheer and it enhances the lips so much. It actually gives them depth and texture, too.

On my nails, I’m really into the high gloss, ultra-shiny Biker Blue Nail Lacquer ($17). Although pale shades are the it thing for spring, a deep indigo nail polish is a classic shade. Inspired by denim, this shimmering polish is so gorgeous on. I personally prefer this dark shade on the toes, but here’s a photo of the polish on my nails so you can see how awesome the shimmer is.

Now for the new additions to the permanent collection. These are products you’re allowed to fall in love with because you can replace them when you run out. They won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Sheen Supreme Lipstick ($17.50) is a new collection offering up 14 different shades of creamy lip colour. I have Look at Her, a deep shimmering copper lipstick and I totally love it. It’s a rich, hydrating lip colour and it wears really well…all day long!

Another permanent goody is one the best new creations of the moment: Cremeblend ($23.50) blush. Cream blush is the latest creation in blush and when used appropriately, it can be the best thing that ever happened to you. My personal tip is to apply cream blush with a triangular-shaped makeup sponge. Dab the sponge very lightly into the blush and dab the sponge on your cheek, slowly blending as you go along. It take a few minutes to blend it but it literally becomes like second skin and can appear quite natural.

Before applying any of my new makeup products, I start with Future Face Studio Moisture Tint SPF 15 ($38). It’s available in two different shades so your skin can look more or less tanned. It gives my skin a natural glow and is making up for the Jamaican tan I’m sadly losing. I can’t even imagine living without a tinted moisturizer. Plus, it has SPF and as you loyal readers know, you should never ever leave without it any day of the year.

Which if the new MAC releases are you itching to try out for yourself?

    Hard Candy: Spring 2011 Makeup

Hard Candy used to be a hard-to-get brand here in Canada but now you can snag the collection at Walmart. If you haven’t checked out Hard Candy before, you should definitely try it out this spring. A couple of weeks ago, the lovely people at Hard Candy sent me a fabulous care package loaded with some amazing products to try out. Here’s the rundown on some of my faves.

First things first, Sheer Envy Tinted Mousturizer ($7.98). In secret, I call this product my fake-it cream. The beauty of it? No one can tell I’m wearing anything at all. It tints the skin ever-so-slightly; just enough to add a radiant glow but not so much that it looks like I applied self-tanner. It’s perfect when you don’t have time for makeup or just want a natural look.

When you need a little bronzer help, I suggest you try So Baked Bronzer ($8.98). Baked powders are among the best when it comes to bronzer. This one has just a slight hint of shimmer, baked into a pressed powder. The texture is soft and totally silky smooth. I like to sweep this powder on the hollows of my cheeks only. (Tip: Never apply bronzer all over!) On the hollows of my cheek, this bronzer gives my face depth and texture and the shade is just right.

I’m a lip gloss fiend and my personal secret is to always wear bronze, shimmering glosses when I have a tan, even a slight one. It really brings out a tan and gives the illusion I’m more brown than I actually am. That’s why when I packed my bags for Jamaica last week, I threw this baby in there: Mouthing Off Lip Shine ($5.98). It’s the perfect shade of bronze and I definitely love the shimmer.

If I have heavier eye makeup, I prefer to go for Plexi Gloss in Nude ($4.98). It is the shiniest gloss ever! It looks like my lips are literally made of glass. It’s so sexy and not half as sticky as you’d  think. It’s light, sheer and ultra-hydrating. Plus, I noticed it tastes pretty good, too. And (the deal-maker) my boyfriend doesn’t complain about it when I have it on. (He hates sticky glosses.)

No review of a spring makeup collection would be complete without a nail polish mention. Do you not love this vibrant aqua Just Nails Polish ($4.98)? Remember that vibrant and bold shades are hot for spring this year. Wave buh-bye to your fave black and burgundy polishes of the fall and make room for the flashy shades of spring.

For the eyes, Meteor Eyes ($5.98) is a fabulous eyeshadow choice. It has all my favourite spring/summer elements: shimmer, intensity and bold colour. Available in three dark shades, you should have no problems rocking a Kim Kardashian-style smoky eye.

If you’re looking for an amazing mascara at a wallet-friendly price, you may want to get your hands on Ginormous Lash Mascara ($5.98). The uber-thick brush made me love it before I even tried it. If you want volume, a thick brush is a must. The soft bristles are fabulous and it really gives lashes a thicker, more voluminous look. If you are a little on the gutsy side, it’s available in other shades, too…bright ones!

As you may have noticed, these products won’t break the bank and I’m sure you’ll love them. Everyone has their own personal preferences so be sure to go through the products at the store (never rush when you buy makeup) and chose the items that best reflect your style. You won’t be disappointed!

    Celebrity Favourite: Dermaglow 3-in-1 Moisturizer

These days, multitasking seems to be the way of the world so why not invest in products that are just as versatile as we are? Dermaglow, a Canadian brand, recently released the first and only moisturizer on the market that aims to hydrate, protect against premature aging and act as a foundation.

Dermaglow is a top quality brand favoured by celebs like Kate Winslet. Since she has absolutely flawless-looking skin, it’s safe to say Dermaglow is a trustworthy source for quality skin care products. The Anti-Aging Tinted Moisturizer ($40) is a real time-saver thanks to its triple action formula.

First and foremost, the product acts as a daily moisturizer. I used it a few times last week and I found my skin to be moist yet not greasy all day long. I was very surprised by the colour-match properties of the tinted moisturizer part of it, too. The cream comes out in a basic nude shades and literally transforms to match any skin colour. You can actually watch and see as the cream blends into your skin tone. Although it only provides light coverage, it’s great for evening skin tone and giving your skin a natural look.

The third element of this moisturizer is its anti-aging properties. It reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and stimulates the production of collagen to give skin more elasticity. I would recommend this cream more for women who are over 35 but it serves as a great tinted moisturizer for any age.
